Embraer will export 16 E175 aircraft to the United States with a $355 million credit from BNDES
The Brazilian National Bank for Economic and Social Development approves a multimillion-dollar credit for the export of Embraer aircraft to Republic Airways.
The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) announced on January 27 the approval of financing amounting to 2.1 billion Reais ($355 million) for the export of 16 Embraer E175 aircraft to the U.S. airline Republic Airways. This financial support is provided through the BNDES Exim Post-Shipment program and will cover part of the total investment cost of the importing company.
The aircraft will be delivered throughout 2025, and Republic Airways will assume the payment commitment in dollars, generating foreign exchange for Brazil. The U.S. airline, specializing in regional flights, operates a fleet composed exclusively of Embraer aircraft, with more than 200 units of the E170 and E175 models. Its network includes 900 daily flights to more than 80 cities in the United States and Canada, under the brands American Eagle, Delta Connection, and United Express.
According to our associated media outlet Aeroin, the president of BNDES, Aloizio Mercadante, highlighted the relevance of this operation: "The historic support from BNDES has been key to positioning Embraer as one of the world leaders in the aerospace industry. The company is the main exporter of high value-added goods from Brazil and maintains more than 87% of its approximately 21,000 jobs within the country."
Francisco Gomes Neto, president and CEO of Embraer, emphasized the strategic importance of the financing: "The support from BNDES strengthens our international competitiveness, diversifying financing options and allowing us to compete on equal terms with our global rivals."
Since 1997, BNDES has financed the export of more than 1,300 Embraer aircraft, with a total of approximately $26 billion allocated to these operations. According to the Director of Productive Development, Innovation, and Foreign Trade at BNDES, José Luís Gordon, this new transaction reinforces the position of the national industry in the external market and contributes significantly to Brazil's trade balance.
Export financing is a common tool in countries with advanced aeronautical industries. These operations are often backed by development banks or export credit agencies, a role that in Brazil is performed by BNDES.
