French Defense Minister Highlights Security Talks and Military Support for Ukraine
Boosting the Air Force, with the potential addition of 20 to 30 more Dassault Rafale fighter jets.
In a statement posted on his official X profile, French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu emphasized the importance of negotiations for restoring peace in Ukraine, taking into account both Ukraine’s interests and those of its allies.
Equipping Ukraine’s Armed Forces: A Top Priority
In an interview with Le Parisien, later shared on social media, Lecornu stated that properly equipping Ukraine’s armed forces is the primary security guarantee for the country.
To achieve this, he stressed the need to develop co-productions of military equipment with Ukrainian companies, enabling local, large-scale production of necessary defense items. Lecornu pointed out that this partnership would not only enhance Ukraine’s security but also bring economic benefits to France.
Strengthening France’s Military Capabilities
To address long-term, multi-theater threats, Lecornu outlined specific measures for strengthening the French Armed Forces, according to Aeroin.
Key proposals include:
- Expanding the Navy, increasing the fleet from 15 to 18 frigates.
- Boosting the Air Force, adding 20 to 30 additional Dassault Rafale fighter jets.
- Modernizing the Army, accelerating the development and integration of electronic warfare technologies and drones into individual soldier equipment.
These strategic initiatives aim to enhance France’s defense capabilities while reinforcing European security commitments.
