GOL Líneas Aéreas has announced the launch of a new international route connecting Manaus, the capital of Brazil's Amazonas state, with Bogotá, Colombia, starting on April 2. The route will operate with two direct weekly flights, departing on Wednesdays and Sundays, the airline confirmed.
This new service will provide easier access to popular tourist destinations in Colombia such as Cartagena de Indias, San Andrés, and Medellín, as well as expanded connections to North America and Central America through Bogotá. Thanks to code-share and interline agreements with Avianca, GOL passengers will also have easier access to destinations in Ecuador and Peru.
According to GOL, this new route complements the recently inaugurated Brasilia-Bogotá route, which has been operational since February 4, aimed at meeting the growing demand for passenger traffic, cargo, and e-commerce between Brazil and Colombia.
"We are excited about the new Manaus-Bogotá route, which not only meets the growing demand for international travel to and from Amazonas but also reflects our commitment to expanding our network and offering more connectivity options to our customers throughout the Americas," said Bruno Balan, GOL's Executive Manager of Network Planning.
Support from Brazilian Officials
Brazil's Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, highlighted that Brazilian civil aviation is currently experiencing one of the best periods in its history, forecasting a 17% increase in international tourist arrivals by the end of 2024 compared to the previous year. Brazil's Minister of Tourism, Celso Sabino, noted that GOL’s initiative supports the government’s efforts to strengthen air connectivity and raise the visibility of the Brazilian Amazon.
Wilson Lima, Governor of Amazonas, emphasized that this new route is possible thanks to the Brazilian government's tax incentive program, which encourages international flights. He pointed out that it offers tourists traveling to and from Amazonas a direct connection to Colombia.
