The Civil Aeronautics Authority of Colombia (Aerocivil) reported this Monday that GOL Linhas Aéreas has requested authorization to fly to Venezuela on a particular route that will depart from Brasília to Bogotá and then continue to Caracas, taking advantage of fifth freedom rights.
The airline had already carried out a similar operation this year on the São Paulo – Bogotá – Buenos Aires route, which will ultimately be suspended, with the São Paulo – Bogotá segment ending on December 10 and the Bogotá – Buenos Aires segment on February 3, 2025.
According to the Aerocivil document, GOL plans to fly between Brasília, Bogotá, and Caracas twice a week. It has also requested to add Manaus as a new point on the Brasília – Bogotá route, also with two weekly flights.
GOL Linhas Aéreas reentered the Colombian market in March of this year precisely on the São Paulo – Bogotá – Buenos Aires route. After discontinuing this route, it will begin operating between Brasília and Bogotá with four weekly flights starting February 4, 2025. The request to Aerocivil does not specify whether the continuation to Caracas and Manaus will take effect on that date.
Spanish document:
GOL Linhas Aéreas had previously flown to Caracas between January 2009 and January 2016, leaving the market when other companies did so as well, due to the restrictions that existed for repatriating funds.
