Guyana’s RORAIMA Airways Adds Two Tecnam P2012 Traveller Aircraft
RORAIMA Airways highlights the P2012 Traveller for air ambulance missions and night flights in Guyana, a country facing infrastructure challenges in the Amazon region.
Costruzioni Aeronautiche Tecnam has delivered two P2012 Traveller Continental aircraft to RORAIMA Airways, based in Guyana. The aircraft will be used for both passenger flights and medical operations.
The first aircraft was transferred to Guyana via a ferry flight in November 2024, after being accepted at Tecnam's facility in Capua, Italy. A key segment of the journey was piloted by Gerald Gouveia Jr., Director of Aviation and Chief Pilot of RORAIMA Airways, who flew the aircraft from Canada to its new home base in Guyana.
Strengthening Regional Connectivity
With the Guyana government investing in aviation infrastructure, the P2012 Traveller is set to play a key role in regional development, according to the airline. The new aircraft will allow RORAIMA Airways to expand charter services to destinations in the Caribbean and northern Brazil.
The P2012 Traveller offers spacious individual seating, USB ports, cup holders, air conditioning, and under-seat storage. Additionally, it features pre-cooling technology, allowing the cabin to be temperature-controlled before boarding—a crucial feature for Guyana’s challenging climate conditions.
Multi-Mission Capabilities for Medical Evacuations
Both aircraft are equipped with multi-mission configurations, including the ability to function as 24-hour air ambulances. This feature is critical for nighttime medical evacuations, which were previously limited due to weather conditions and the lack of reliable meteorological reports.
"With Tecnam’s technology and government support in upgrading runways, we are ready to restart nighttime medical evacuation services. This enhances safety and comfort in our operations, even in the challenging jungle conditions," said Gerald Gouveia Jr.
The new P2012 Traveller aircraft will replace RORAIMA’s Britten-Norman Islander and Trislander fleet.
As Guyana’s first P2012 Traveller operator, RORAIMA Airways aims to provide a vital new service to the region.
"Delivering a service that is both new and essential is the mission of our P2012 Traveller. Its multi-mission capability is a key factor in RORAIMA’s operations," concluded Francesco Sferra, Tecnam’s Sales Manager.
