London Heathrow Airport handled over 5.7 million passengers in February 2025, with a notable 7% increase in travel to the United States and Canada. Adjusted for the leap year, February marked the busiest month in Heathrow’s history in terms of air traffic.
The airport operator reported that for 12 consecutive months, the daily passenger average exceeded 200,000. Additionally, there was a surge in demand for leisure destinations in the Caribbean, Italy, and Greece, while key financial hubs such as Delhi, Dubai, Mumbai, and Riyadh also recorded high occupancy rates.

Sustainability Efforts and Carbon Reduction
According to Heathrow’s latest 2024 Sustainability Report, the airport achieved a 7.5% reduction in carbon emissions from air operations and a 15% decrease in ground emissions compared to 2019 levels. Heathrow aims to meet the UK government’s Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) target of 3% for 2025, surpassing the official requirement by one percentage point.
The airport also reported an 18% reduction in areas exposed to high aircraft noise levels compared to 2019, along with a decline in flight delays throughout 2024. Heathrow emphasized that all air quality monitoring stations around the airport continue to meet UK air quality standards.
Security Pilot Program and Expansion Plans
In February, Heathrow launched a One Stop Security pilot program in collaboration with the UK Department for Transport and the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA). This initiative aims to streamline security checks and speed up connections between North America and other international destinations.
"Even during a traditionally quiet month for aviation like February, we saw sustained and growing demand," said Thomas Woldbye, CEO of Heathrow. "We must respond to this demand while maintaining our strategy for decarbonization and noise impact reduction."
Additionally, Heathrow confirmed that it is working on initial proposals for a privately funded expansion, which will be presented to the UK government for review in the summer of 2025.
