Hellenic Air Force receives its 30th modernized F-16V “Viper” F-16V
Greece receives its 30th F-16V “Viper”, locally modernized by EAB.
The Hellenic Air Force (HAF) has taken delivery of its 30th F-16V “Viper” modernized by Hellenic Aerospace Industries (EAB) under the supervision of Lockheed Martin, the U.S. manufacturer.
Greece, which already took delivery of its first two units in November 2023, is modernizing 38 of its F-16 Block 50 fighters to the new Viper standard, which brings these aircraft up to the capabilities of modern F-16 Block 70s. The F-16Vs will feature a powerful APG-83 AESA-type radar, new self-defense systems, an advanced tactical data link, as well as engine and cockpit data display improvements.
To reduce costs, Greece has decided to reuse some systems and armaments already integrated in the current Hellenic F-16 configuration, such as the LANTIRN pods, the GBU-50 guided bomb and the IRIS-T air-to-air missile.
Upon completion of the modernization of these units, the HAF also plans to modernize much or all of its 83 F-16 Block 52+ and 52+ Advanced to Viper standard. These aircraft, along with the 24 French Dassault Rafale and future Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning IIs, will form the core of Greece's combat capability for decades to come.
