Historic record: Aeropuertos Argentina handles nearly 4 million passengers in December
Aeroparque leads growth with a 55% increase in passengers compared to 2019, driven by domestic and international flights
Aeropuertos Argentina announced that in December 2024 it reached the highest number of passengers in its history, with a total of 3,948,859 people at the 35 airports it operates in the country. This new record surpassed the previous one set in July 2019, when 3,901,087 passengers were recorded.
The Jorge Newbery Aeroparque led the growth in passenger movement, with 1,467,317 users in December 2024. This represents an 11% increase compared to December 2023 and a 55% growth compared to the same month in 2019, prior to the pandemic. Aeroparque also recorded significant figures in international flights, with 389,000 passengers, a 28% increase over December 2023.
Among the most popular destinations from Aeroparque are Bariloche, Iguazú, Córdoba, Mendoza, Ushuaia, Salta, Neuquén, and Tucumán. This airport, key to domestic and regional connectivity, was also a finalist in the Routes Americas awards in the category of airports handling 4 to 20 million passengers.
The infrastructure improvements made at Aeroparque, such as the expansion of the domestic flight security control area and the New Coastal Border Project, allowed the increase in traffic to be managed smoothly. The first stage of the new inspection post, which required an investment of 11.5 million dollars, has already been inaugurated.
Ezeiza and other standout airports
The Ezeiza International Airport ranked second in increased user volume, with 1,107,976 passengers in December, reflecting a 7% growth compared to December 2023 and 6% compared to the same month in 2019. This performance was supported by the New Departures Terminal, which has been operational since April 2023 and features 50,000 m², 150 check-in counters, and 72 self-check-in stations, among other services.
Other standout airports in December 2024 include:
• Córdoba: 273,000 passengers (+3% compared to 2023).
• Mendoza: 229,000 passengers (+9% compared to 2023, +29% compared to 2019).
• Bariloche: 220,000 passengers (-slight drop compared to 2023, +43% compared to 2019).
• Salta: 127,000 passengers (+12% compared to 2023, recovering from the 2019 decline).
Investments and future plans
The company indicated that it is carrying out an investment of over 1 billion dollars in the last five years, in projects that include new terminals, runways, and taxiways. Airports with ongoing projects include Santa Rosa, Iguazú, San Rafael, and Bariloche, in addition to the works at Aeroparque and Ezeiza.
For 2025, more upgrades are planned, such as the renovation of Tucumán airport, the rehabilitation of runways in Río Cuarto, and new facilities in Formosa and Santiago del Estero.
