Hybrid Air Vehicles Appoints John Schumacher to Lead Airlander Expansion in the U.S.
Schumacher, with a distinguished career at NASA and Aerojet Rocketdyne, takes on the challenge of expanding the Airlander aircraft in the U.S. market.
Hybrid Air Vehicles (HAV), the British aerospace company, has announced the appointment of John Schumacher to its executive team. Schumacher, a highly respected leader with decades of experience in civil, commercial, and national security aerospace, will spearhead the sales and production strategy for Airlander in the United States.
According to Aeroin, HAV has ongoing contracts with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) for various technology demonstration programs, and Schumacher’s appointment aligns with the company’s expansion strategy in the U.S. market.
John Schumacher’s Aerospace Industry Legacy
Schumacher brings a wealth of experience and strategic vision, having held key leadership roles in major aerospace organizations:
- Played a pivotal role in transforming Aerojet Rocketdyne, the leading U.S. rocket propulsion manufacturer, delivering a 121% return for shareholders over the five years leading up to its acquisition.
- Led a successful campaign securing $216 million in funding to modernize missile propulsion production at Aerojet Rocketdyne.
- Founded and served as President of Astrium Americas, a subsidiary of EADS NA, providing advanced space capabilities to international clients.
- Spent 16 years at NASA, serving as Chief of Staff, overseeing the U.S. Vision for Space Exploration, and facilitating 400 international agreements valued at over $15 billion.
- Served as a U.S. Navy officer for decades, commanding four Reserve units and contributing to the creation of a Space Reserve Force.
- Led the Aerojet Rocketdyne Foundation as President for nine years, increasing funds to over $13 million to support community initiatives.
- Currently serves as President of the International Academy of Astronautics.

Regarding his new role at HAV, Schumacher stated:
