Iberia’s Growth in Latin America: Exceeding Expectations and Expanding Connections
Arajet expands its network with its first route to the United States, connecting Santo Domingo with Miami. The new service, starting on April 11, will offer four flights per week, with convenient connections to other destinations in the Americas
Iberia’s Commercial Director, Mariana Colunga, highlighted that the airline’s operations in Latin America, especially in Argentina, “have more than exceeded expectations” and that the outlook is to “continue consolidating” this growth.
Speaking to Aviacionline during the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) held in Madrid, Colunga remarked, “For the past couple of years, Iberia’s commitment to Latin America, particularly Argentina, has been highly rewarding.”
“We are consolidating our offering in Latin America because travelers have shown a growing interest in visiting Europe. Additionally, Argentina stands out as one of our most important markets,” she added.
Colunga emphasized Iberia’s global reach, saying, “We might think that Iberia only connects with Madrid, but last year, from our Madrid Hub, we connected travelers to the rest of the world. Due to the cultural and historical closeness between countries, the primary flow remains to Spain, which is a key pillar of the strength in demand.”
She also highlighted the airline’s expansion to other destinations: “We inaugurated flights to Tokyo, which has been well-received in the Argentine market, as well as to Doha, Cairo, and Nordic countries like Finland and Iceland to experience the Northern Lights. These routes complement the offering already established in the Argentine market.”
Colunga noted that the trend in Argentina is mirrored across other South American countries, such as Chile, Uruguay, Colombia, and Peru. She stated, “2024 closed with extraordinary figures and records for Latin America. That’s why we operate three frequencies in Mexico, Colombia, and Argentina and are planning to increase our capacity in Brazil, Chile, and Peru.”
“These are markets that will continue accelerating. Iberia’s focus, while strongly rooted in vacation travel and destinations with high-season demand, has received an extraordinary response, suggesting sustained growth throughout the year,” she explained.
Colunga concluded, “We are thrilled with the performance in the first quarter, and our commitment remains strong in Latin America. We plan to strengthen partnerships with Argentine travel agencies and continue enhancing the bridge to Madrid with the three frequencies we currently operate.”
