ICAO Inspection Highlights Technical Advances in Operational Safety
The organization has completed its assessment of regulations and procedures.
The National Civil Aviation Administration of Argentina (ANAC) underwent an inspection by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to assess compliance with operational safety standards and procedures set by the organization.
Following the evaluation, ICAO highlighted Argentina’s rapid technical progress, achieved through ANAC’s restructuring efforts. According to the National Transport Secretariat, these improvements have positioned Argentina as one of the regional leaders in aviation safety.
ICAO also noted significant progress in addressing the findings from its 2022 audit, where Argentina’s aviation system had received an unfavorable assessment, scoring just 60.47% compliance—well below the regional average.
Among the most notable corrective actions were improvements in key areas of civil aviation, including Aircraft Operations, Civil Aviation Organization, and Personnel Licensing and Training. These efforts substantially reversed the deficiencies identified in the previous audit.
Authorities explained that, given the critical state of the aviation system inherited from the previous administration, a decision was made to intervene and restructure ANAC. This allowed for the development and implementation of corrective action plans aimed at addressing the concerns raised by international aviation authorities.
These plans, developed with technical support from experts at ICAO’s South American Regional Office, successfully resolved operational issues and longstanding deficiencies in a short period, preventing Argentina’s aviation system from being downgraded internationally.
This was the second audit faced by the current administration within four months. In October, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) conducted an evaluation to determine whether Argentina maintained its Category 1 status in Operational Safety—the highest rating awarded by the agency.
The FAA audit also acknowledged ANAC’s technical advancements, which helped Argentina retain its top safety classification.
Regarding the results, National Transport Secretary Franco Mogetta emphasized the strengthening of aviation operational safety in Argentina. He underscored the challenges inherited from the previous administration and praised the efforts that reversed the initial situation, allowing the country to improve its standing above the regional average and reinforce aviation safety standards.
