ITA Airways Expands Global Reach with New Lufthansa Group Codeshare Destinations
Starting July 1, the Italian carrier will offer intercontinental routes to Africa, Asia, and South America via Lufthansa Group hubs.
ITA Airways is set to expand its intercontinental route network through an extended codeshare agreement with Lufthansa Group carriers. The expanded partnership will go into effect on July 1, 2025, and will include flights from Europe to Africa, Asia, and South America.
Under the new agreement, ITA will place its “AZ” code on flights operated by Lufthansa Group airlines to several African destinations including Nairobi, Abidjan, Douala, Freetown, Monrovia, and Ouagadougou, all departing from Brussels Airport, a key group hub. These flights will be available for booking in the coming weeks.
The airline emphasized that the goal is to offer passengers a “simpler, smoother, and more secure” travel experience by allowing them to book the entire journey with a single ticket.
In the reverse direction, Lufthansa Group passengers will gain access to ITA Airways-operated routes to destinations such as Bangkok, Jeddah, Riyadh, Cairo, Rio de Janeiro, and São Paulo, under the same codeshare framework.
“With the implementation of these new codeshare flights on intercontinental routes with Lufthansa Group airlines, ITA Airways is strengthening its global presence,” said Joerg Eberhart, CEO and General Manager of the Italian carrier. He added that this development builds on the intra-European codeshare agreements signed in March and marks "another important milestone in integrating our airline into the Lufthansa Group."
