JetBlue has announced an extension of its flight suspension to Port-au-Prince, Haiti. While services were initially set to resume at the end of April, they will now remain suspended until June 11, 2025.
A JetBlue representative told The Miami Herald:
"Our top priority remains the safety and well-being of our customers and crew members. Due to the ongoing civil unrest in Haiti, we have decided to suspend all flights to and from the country at least until June 11, 2025. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and update our plans as needed."
FAA Ban on Flights to Haiti
JetBlue’s decision to halt operations in Haiti came one week before the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) officially banned passenger and cargo flights to the Caribbean nation.
The security crisis in Port-au-Prince has escalated due to increasing violence from criminal groups. As of now, the FAA has not set a date for the resumption of flights.
The FAA's ban followed an attack on a Spirit Airlines flight by armed gangs, in which a flight attendant was injured. In response, both American Airlines and Spirit Airlines indefinitely suspended their flights to Haiti.
Haiti Seeks to Maintain International Air Access
The Haitian government has been working to ensure access to international flights through regional airports. On March 6, officials reopened Antoine Simon Airport in Les Cayes for international operations after extending its runway by nearly 1,800 meters.
Meanwhile, Port-au-Prince's airport remains closed to commercial airlines.
Currently, the only air service between the U.S. and Haiti is operated by Sunrise Airways, offering flights between Cap-Haïtien and Miami.
