In a press conference held this Thursday, ultra low-cost airline JetSMART announced the addition of two new destinations in Argentina: Resistencia, the capital of Chaco province in the country’s northeast, and Trelew, in Patagonia.
New Route to Resistencia
The inaugural flight to Resistencia is scheduled for April 23, initially operating five times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Flights will depart from Buenos Aires' Aeroparque Jorge Newbery at 12:00 PM, arriving in Resistencia at 1:33 PM. The return flight will leave at 2:06 PM, landing in Buenos Aires at 3:36 PM. Ticket prices start at ARS 27,000.
This marks the first time a low-cost airline will operate regular flights to Resistencia. The nearby city of Corrientes, just 20 kilometers away, currently has Flybondi flights, and JetSMART itself operated there between August 2021 and December 2023.
For Resistencia, JetSMART’s arrival means the presence of a second airline after 12 years, following the closure of Aerochaco/Macair in 2013. Since then, the city has only received regular service from Aerolíneas Argentinas, which in February operates 14 weekly flights to Buenos Aires/Aeroparque and two weekly flights to Ezeiza Airport. Starting in April, Aerolíneas Argentinas will resume flights to Córdoba with two weekly frequencies.
New Route to Trelew
Flights to Trelew will begin on April 30, also operating five times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Departures from Buenos Aires/Aeroparque are scheduled for 11:20 AM, arriving in Trelew at 1:25 PM. The return flight will take off at 1:58 PM, landing in Buenos Aires at 3:55 PM. Ticket prices start at ARS 27,000.
At Trelew Airport, Aerolíneas Argentinas is currently the only airline offering regular flights, with 16 weekly flights to Buenos Aires/Aeroparque, one to Ezeiza, two to El Calafate, and two to Ushuaia. Until 2023, Flybondi also operated in Trelew, but later moved its services to Puerto Madryn, 70 kilometers away.
JetSMART Strengthens Its Commitment to Argentina
Gonzalo Pérez Corral, Country Manager of JetSMART Argentina, emphasized the airline’s growth:
"JetSMART’s commitment in Argentina and the work we have done in the country continue to pay off. The growth we recorded last December, along with this announcement, is proof of that."
Daniel Scioli, Secretary of Tourism, Environment, and Sports, highlighted the collaborative effort: "We have worked hard to listen to the needs of the provinces, and at the Secretariat, we strive to address those needs. Chaco and Chubut are examples of this joint effort and dialogue with the private sector. Today, we are proud to announce these two new routes, which will enhance connectivity for the provinces. This is a great achievement worth celebrating and motivates us to keep working."
Leandro Zdero, Governor of Chaco, stressed the impact on the local economy: "The announcement of these new flights is undoubtedly great news for Chaco. Greater air connectivity not only brings more tourists but also boosts commerce, strengthens small and medium-sized businesses, and creates new job opportunities. For many passengers, this will be their first experience flying with a low-cost airline, making this milestone even more special."
Ignacio Torres, Governor of Chubut, echoed the importance of connectivity: "Connectivity is key for tourism, the economy, and integrating our region with the rest of the country. Each new route strengthens our position as a strategic destination in Patagonia, facilitating the arrival of tourists, promoting trade, and driving our industries forward."
