JetSMART Operates First Airbus A321neo Flight to Trujillo, Peru
JetSMART Makes History in Trujillo with First Airbus A321neo Operation at Capitán FAP Carlos Martínez de Pinillos Airport The airport is Peru’s fifth busiest, serving over 1 million passengers annually.
On January 18, JetSMART operated a flight between Santiago de Chile (SCL) and Trujillo (TRU), Peru, using an Airbus A321neo. This marked the first time that Captain FAP Carlos Martínez de Pinillos International Airport, managed by Aeropuertos del Perú (AdP), received an aircraft of this model.
Through its LinkedIn account, the airport concessionaire celebrated the milestone:
"We celebrate the arrival of JetSMART's Airbus A321neo, marking a historic moment as the first aircraft of this type to operate at a regional airport in Peru."
Expanded Capacity and Route Overview
Currently, JetSMART connects Santiago and Trujillo with four weekly flights during the southern summer and three weekly flights for the rest of the year. These operations are typically performed with Airbus A320neo aircraft, which have a 186-passenger capacity.
According to Cirium data, JetSMART has scheduled over 61,000 seats on this route for 2025, though projections may change.

The introduction of the A321neo, which seats 240 passengers, led to a 30% increase in seat availability on the day of its arrival.
Trujillo’s Growing Aviation Market
Currently, Santiago de Chile is the only international destination served from Trujillo. In 2024, the route transported 45,996 passengers, according to Chile’s Civil Aviation Board (JAC).
Trujillo is Peru’s fifth-busiest airport, handling over 1 million passengers annually. Its main domestic connection is with Lima, operated by LATAM and SKY, offering 44 and 14 weekly flights, respectively.
