LATAM Airlines has decided to advance in a testing stage together with IATA to test the IATA Travel Pass digital health passport, which allows passengers to organize and manage the travel requirements required by the authorities of each country.
The platform works based on the biometric information of the passenger’s passport, on the results of the associated laboratories and on the data provided by the governments.
«This is great news for our passengers who wish to participate voluntarily. Having more automated and contactless processes is a new reality for everyone, and this test with the IATA Travel Pass supports that transformation for LATAM and for the entire sector,» commented the vice president of clients of the LATAM Group, Paulo Miranda, in statements reproduced by our associated media in Brazil, Aeroin.
For his part, Peter Cerdá, IATA regional vice president for the Americas, said that «we are satisfied that LATAM trusts the IATA Travel Pass. Tools of this type are essential to restart the air sector and reconnect the world, allowing it to reopen the borders with security and tranquility, giving governments the guarantee that passengers comply with health requirements, speeding up migration processes and simplifying their experience.»
The pilot phase, which is voluntary for passengers, will take place between June 14 and July 2 on these routes:
- Lima-Miami
- Lima-Santiago de Chile
- Santiago de Chile-Lima
- Santiago de Chile-Miami
LATAM Airlines prepared a specific site with information about the IATA Travel Pass, which can be accessed at this link.
To encourage participation, LATAM will give a bonus of 1,000 LATAM Pass miles to those who use the IATA Travel Pass and complete the satisfaction survey at the end of the trip.
