LATAM Boeing 777 Severely Damaged After Collision with Catering Truck in Milan
Due to the damage, the aircraft will need to be repaired before taking off again.
A Boeing 777 operated by LATAM suffered significant damage after being struck by a catering truck at Milan Airport on Wednesday morning.
The aircraft, registered PT-MUE, was preparing for departure from Milan, Italy, to Guarulhos Airport in São Paulo, operating flight LA8073. During pre-flight preparations, a catering truck responsible for delivering onboard service collided heavily with the fuselage of the 777-300ER.
Images circulating on social media show at least one tear and a large dent on the Boeing. Due to the extent of the damage, the aircraft will require repairs before returning to service, and today's scheduled flight to Brazil, March 5, has been canceled, according to reports from our partner outlet Aeroin.
LATAM Brasil stated: "We had to cancel flight LA8073 (Milan-São Paulo) on Wednesday (5/3) after a catering truck (which supplies food for onboard service) made contact with the aircraft."

The incident occurred while the aircraft was still empty, before passenger boarding. No injuries were reported. LATAM apologized for the inconvenience and is assisting affected passengers, who will be accommodated on flight LA9511 (Milan-São Paulo), scheduled to depart at 12:00 PM (local time) on Thursday (3/6).
Another LATAM Boeing 777 Incident in Milan Last Year
In August 2023, another LATAM Boeing 777 sustained damage at Milan Airport—this time to its tail. That incident occurred during takeoff when incorrect data entry caused the aircraft’s tail to scrape the runway before gaining altitude. The aircraft only recently returned to commercial service after undergoing repairs.
