LATAM Brasil jet overruns runway during landing in Chapecó amid poor weather
A LATAM Brasil aircraft veered off the runway on Monday, March 31, during landing at Chapecó Airport in Santa Catarina, a state in southern Brazil.
The Airbus A319, registration PR-MYM, was operating flight LA3276 from São Paulo's Guarulhos International Airport. On its initial approach, the aircraft had to abort the landing due to low visibility. After holding near the airport, it made a second attempt.
On the second approach, the aircraft landed on runway 29 but was unable to come to a full stop, overrunning the opposite end of the runway (runway 11) and coming to a halt a few meters into the grass area beyond.
Weather conditions at the time of landing included light rain with thunderstorms and dense cloud cover at 3,000 feet (900 meters).
Airport firefighters responded immediately to the incident. However, as of now, the aircraft remains in place and passengers have not yet disembarked.

There are no reports of injuries. According to Brazilian aviation outlet AEROIN, LATAM has confirmed it is investigating the incident and will provide further updates soon.
