Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima reached a record-breaking 24.5 million passengers in 2024, surpassing pre-pandemic levels for the first time. This figure represents a 3.55% increase compared to 2018, the last recorded peak, and a 7.05% growth over 2023.
The rise in passenger traffic was largely driven by the strengthening of international travel, which accounted for 11.3 million passengers, marking an 11% year-over-year increase. Additionally, Lima’s role as a regional hub facilitated the transit of 1.3 million travelers.
Expansion and Future Growth
The airport’s expansion continues with the opening of a new terminal on March 30, 2025, increasing annual capacity to over 30 million passengers. This addition follows the inauguration of a second runway and a new control tower last year.
According to Cirium, airlines have scheduled over 30.1 million seats for 2025, reflecting a 4.55% increase compared to 2024. In the international sector, capacity will reach 13.9 million seats, with a 6.59% growth.

Peru’s General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGAC) reported that in 2024, the main international markets were:
- South America (50.7%)
- North America (25.4%)
- Europe (12.6%)
- Caribbean (6.8%)
- Central America (4.5%)

Connectivity and Top Destinations
By the end of 2024, Jorge Chávez International Airport offered flights to 49 destinations operated by 28 airlines. The busiest international markets were:
- United States (18.3%)
- Chile (16%)
- Colombia (11.7%)
- Spain (8.6%)
- Argentina (8%)

New routes added between late 2024 and early 2025 include:

- Rosario (ROS)

Despite the growth, Lima lost five direct connections:

- Cúcuta (CUC)

Additionally, some airlines discontinued certain routes:
