Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Corp. has been awarded a contract worth up to $265.9 million to upgrade the Operational Flight Program (OFP) of the F-16 fighter jets acquired by Argentina and oversee their transfer from Denmark. This initiative falls under the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program, with the upgrades expected to be completed across the fleet by March 31, 2032.
The contract includes a comprehensive OFP upgrade, featuring enhancements in software, avionics, and mission systems to ensure the operational effectiveness of the aircraft. Such modernization efforts are common among F-16 fleets worldwide, aiming to optimize performance in modern combat scenarios.
Similar upgrade programs include the Common Configuration Implementation Program (CCIP), which standardized F-16 variants within the U.S. Air Force, and the Falcon STAR program, designed to extend the aircraft’s structural lifespan.
With these upgrades, the Argentine Air Force will regain key capabilities in supersonic interception and air defense, improving interoperability with allied forces and strengthening control over its airspace. The contract will be managed by the U.S. Air Force Life Cycle Management Center through its FMS contracting division at Hill Air Force Base, Utah.
