Lufthansa Expands Free Chat Services to Long-Haul Flights
This move aligns Lufthansa with a growing trend of prioritizing passenger connectivity during flights. By extending free WhatsApp access to intercontinental routes, Lufthansa positions itself as a leader in in-flight communication.
The German company Lufthansa will offer free and unlimited access to WhatsApp and other chat services on all intercontinental flights starting next summer, covering all travel classes.
This initiative builds on Lufthansa's earlier introduction of free communication services on shorter flights, which also allow passengers to send photos at no additional cost. The airline is committed to enhancing the in-flight experience for its customers, as reported by our partner outlet Aeroin.
Heiko Reitz, Chief Customer Officer at Lufthansa, emphasized the growing importance of in-flight connectivity, stating that “being available during the flight” has become a highly relevant feature for passengers. The free chat service has already gained widespread popularity on European routes, and Lufthansa continues to invest in this offering to boost customer satisfaction.
Offering free WhatsApp access is part of a broader trend among airlines. Air France and AirBaltic, for example, plan to introduce Starlink Internet in 2025, enabling passengers to access streaming services free of charge during flights. These developments mark a significant shift in onboard Internet services expected to transform the travel experience.
