Lufthansa has introduced a new at-home baggage pickup and check-in service for passengers departing from Frankfurt Airport, in partnership with technology company AirPortr. According to the airline, this system will allow travelers to send their luggage from their home or hotel directly to the airport, where it will be sealed, transported, and checked in for their flight.
How the Service Works
Lufthansa states that passengers will be able to track their luggage in real-time via a personalized tracking link and receive a digital check-in receipt. This allows them to travel to the airport without bulky baggage, proceed directly through security, and retrieve their belongings only at their final destination.
The service is available for passengers in the Frankfurt metropolitan region and nearby cities, including Mannheim, Heidelberg, Hanau, Aschaffenburg, Wiesbaden, Mainz, Darmstadt, and Bensheim. According to the airline, there are plans to expand to more areas in the future.
Passengers can book pickup up to 36 hours before departure through lufthansa.com, with prices starting at €25, depending on location and pickup time.
Lufthansa Airlines' Chief Customer Officer, Heiko Reitz, emphasized that the new system aligns with the airline’s strategy to enhance the travel experience. “Our goal is to continuously improve the overall experience for our passengers and expand our premium services, both in the air and on the ground,” he stated.
Reitz added, “With the new baggage pickup and check-in service, we are offering our passengers a unique option in Germany. We are making travel easier from the very first minute.”
Lufthansa highlights that this new option saves time and enhances convenience, particularly for travelers who use public transportation to reach the airport.
