ANA Holdings (ANAHD) has approved the purchase of 77 new aircraft, including 68 confirmed orders and 9 options, as part of its strategy to renew its fleet and expand both international and domestic operations. According to the company, the acquisition is driven by increasing passenger demand and the need for more technologically advanced and fuel-efficient aircraft.
International Expansion with Boeing 787-9
To strengthen its presence on international routes, ANAHD has confirmed an order for 18 Boeing 787-9 aircraft equipped with GE engines.
The airline aims to capitalize on growing demand between Asia and North America, as well as the expansion of Narita International Airport. The company projects that, compared to fiscal year 2023, available seat kilometers (ASK) on international routes will increase by approximately 1.5 times by 2030.
Introduction of the Embraer E190-E2 in Japan
For the first time in Japan, ANA Holdings will introduce 20 Embraer E190-E2 aircraft, including 15 firm orders and 5 options.
These 100-seat aircraft will serve domestic routes, improving operational efficiency and reducing costs with next-generation engines that lower fuel consumption and noise emissions. The company plans to introduce this model starting in fiscal year 2028.
Fleet Renewal and Peach Aviation Growth
For short- and medium-haul operations, ANAHD confirmed an order for 14 Airbus A321neo and 12 Boeing 737-8 aircraft (8 firm orders and 4 options) as part of its ongoing fleet modernization.
Peach Aviation, the group's low-cost carrier, will add 10 Airbus A321neo and 3 Airbus A321XLR aircraft, the latter featuring greater fuel efficiency and extended range, to support its expansion within the ANA Group.
Fleet Projections and Sustainability
With these acquisitions, ANA Holdings expects to operate a total of 320 aircraft by fiscal year 2030, including approximately 120 Boeing 787 family aircraft. According to the company, this strategy will result in 91% of its fleet being composed of fuel-efficient aircraft, aligning with its sustainability and operational efficiency goals.
Koji Shibata, President and CEO of ANA Holdings, stated that "this order will be the catalyst for improving the profitability of domestic flights and expanding our international operations, which are key growth areas for our airline business. We will fully utilize this opportunity to establish ourselves as an industry-leading airline with sustainable growth."
