New York State Police Becomes First U.S. Agency to Operate Airbus H160
The addition of the H160 is part of the fleet modernization process, which in 2024 already included the incorporation of two H145 helicopters.
The New York State Police has officially purchased one Airbus H160 and three H145 helicopters, making it the first law enforcement agency in the United States to integrate the H160 into its operations. This acquisition is part of an ongoing fleet modernization effort, which in 2024 already included the addition of two H145 helicopters.
Since its founding in 1931, the New York State Police Aviation Unit has provided support for law enforcement operations, rescue missions, and environmental conservation across the state.
A Milestone in Law Enforcement Aviation
According to Bart Reijnen, Head of Airbus Helicopters North America, the introduction of the H160 marks a major operational advancement:
"The New York State Police is setting a new industry standard with the H160, which offers the highest levels of innovation. These aircraft will enhance safety and comfort while also reducing noise pollution for the benefit of the community."

The H160 is currently in operation in countries such as Brazil, Canada, France, Japan, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Airbus H145
With over two decades of service in law enforcement aviation, the H145 is a proven and reliable aircraft. More than 1,740 units are in operation worldwide, with 200 dedicated to public safety and law enforcement missions.
Equipped with twin Safran Arriel 2E engines, an advanced Helionix digital avionics system, and FADEC (Full Authority Digital Engine Control) technology, the H145 is also recognized for its fuel efficiency and reduced CO₂ emissions.

With this latest acquisition, the New York State Police strengthens its aerial capabilities for law enforcement, emergency response, and public service, further optimizing its ability to protect and assist communities across the state.
