Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company, has initiated ground testing for the first time on a UH-60M Black Hawk helicopter equipped with two GE Aerospace T901 Improved Turbine Engines (ITE). During this test, the T901 engine demonstrated its capabilities through a series of rigorous procedures. These orders came from 182 customers across 42 countries. The National Police Agency (NPA) of Japan has taken delivery of two Airbus H160 helicopters, making it the first para-public operator of the type in Japan. Ireland acquires four H145M helicopters with HForce system from Airbus Helicopters

GE Aerospace received an order for 210 T700 engines to power the Polish Armed Forces' 96 Boeing AH-64E Apache Guardian helicopters.The engine order follows a cooperation agreement signed in August 2024 between GE Aerospace and the Polish Ministry of National Defense. Under the agreement, Military Aviation Works in Deblin (WZL-1) will provide MRO support under license for T700 engines for Apache, as well as Sikorsky S-70i Black Hawk, and CT7 engines for Leonardo AW149 and AW101 helicopters that are part of the Polish Armed Forces' fleet of aircraft. GE Aerospace to Supply 210 T700 Engines for Poland's AH-64E Apache Helicopters

Leonardo, the British Royal Navy, and the Future Capability Innovation (FCI) team of the UK Ministry of Defence have unveiled the design of the Proteus technological demonstrator aircraft.This unmanned helicopter, weighing approximately three tons, will be used to demonstrate advancements in autonomy, modularity, and payload interchangeability while developing cutting-edge technologies for helicopters, including design and manufacturing techniques. The project is part of the Royal Navy's Maritime Aviation Transformation (MATx) strategy, which encompasses the evolution of maritime aviation through 2040.<h2>A Highly Modular Maritime UAS</h2>The design of the Proteus technological demonstrator, whose images were released today, reveals that components from Leonardo's entire helicopter portfolio were used to reduce costs and accelerate the aircraft's development. Leonardo has also leveraged the knowledge and experience from its current unmanned aerial systems (UAS) programs.This design aims to demonstrate the feasibility of large UAS in the maritime environment, serving as a testbed for the development and demonstration of autonomous capability. This includes flight control laws and algorithms for large vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) autonomous aircraft.Proteus's design is characterized by its modular payload bay. It is designed to enable mission flexibility, including the ability to swap fuel for payload. The ability to connect specific payloads for different missions aims to provide commanders on the ground with a wide range of options from a single type of aircraft. This is operationally useful and offers good value by avoiding the need to purchase and maintain multiple aircraft fleets.<h2>Innovation in Development and Manufacturing</h2>This development is being carried out at Leonardo's Yeovil site, the home of British Helicopters, which maintains an aggressive autonomy development roadmap covering the capabilities needed for autonomous flights and mission capability.Leonardo has created a "digital twin" of the Proteus technological demonstrator to facilitate development. Using a digital twin, artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms, and machine learning (ML) in a synthetic environment allows Leonardo to test, modify, and demonstrate capability without needing real aircraft testing, thus reducing costs and significantly accelerating development compared to traditional helicopter programs.Leonardo is also experimenting with applying new digital manufacturing technologies in helicopter production, including additive layer manufacturing (3D printing) and the use of cost-effective low-temperature-cured composites, which require fewer manufacturing stages in the production of parts.Once tested, these technologies will be more widely employed to offer agility through spiral development techniques, reduce lifecycle costs compared to conventional manned aircraft, and improve resilience and sustainability in Leonardo's supply chain.In addition to innovating in technologies, Leonardo is also using the Proteus program to transform its approach to collaboration with customers and end users. The company employs an "agile" methodology that breaks the project into phases and emphasizes continuous collaboration and improvement. This closer collaboration between Leonardo, DE&amp;S, and the Royal Navy has allowed the €71 million (£60 million) project, initially contracted in 2022, to progress rapidly, with the demonstrator expected to fly for the first time in mid-2025.

On December 26, KAI (Korea Aerospace Industries) held a delivery ceremony at its headquarters in Sacheon, Gyeongnam, for the handover of the first serial production light attack helicopter “Miron” (LAH-1) to the Republic of Korea Army (ROKA).
KAI President Kang Gu-Young, as well as representatives from the Army, the Defense Acquisition Agency (DAPA), the Defense Research Institute and other related agencies participated in the ceremony.

Development of the Miron began in 2015, when KAI embarked on the task of creating a replacement for the Korean Army&#8217;s aging fleet of 500MD and AH-1S Cobra scout and attack helicopters. The process culminated in November 2022 with the completion of development, and after a year of fine-tuning and optimization, series production has reached its first milestone with the successful delivery of the first helicopters.
<h3>LAH-1 “Miron” characteristics</h3>
The Miron is designed to perform a broad spectrum of missions, from operations against ground targets to close support and surveillance missions. Among its salient features are:

<li>Advanced armament: The helicopter is armed with Cheongeom air-to-ground missiles, along with a powerful machine gun and 2.75” rockets, giving it a remarkable strike capability against ground targets and enemy positions.</li>
<li>Advanced control system: The Miron integrates a 4-axis automatic flight control system (AFCS) that stabilizes the helicopter against atmospheric disturbances and recoil from gunfire, allowing pilots to conduct precision strikes while maintaining full control over the aircraft.</li>
<li>Tactical data link: Another unique feature of the Miron is its joint tactical data link system, which enables real-time transmission of the situation on the battlefield. According to KAI, this capability is unique in its class.</li>

<h3>Targeting the export market</h3>
The helicopter has been designed with a modular approach, opening the door to several derivative variants to meet a wide range of missions. KAI has already announced its intention to develop special operations-oriented versions of the Miron, as well as command and control helicopters, which portends significant potential for commercialization in international markets.
With growing demand for advanced helicopters in markets such as the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Africa, South Korea is positioning KAI as a key player in the export of defense aircraft.

KAI Delivers First Light Attack Helicopter “Miron” (LAH-1) to South Korean Army

Airbus Helicopters has delivered the first NH90 helicopter of the second batch of 23 units to the Directorate General of Armament and Material (DGAM) at its plant in Albacete, Spain. This is the first NH90 in Standard 3 configuration destined for the Spanish Air and Space Force.
This second batch, which includes 23 NH90 helicopters, foresees the delivery of a total of 16 Standard 3 helicopters, ten of which will equip the Spanish Army Air Mobile Forces (FAMET), while six will go to the Air and Space Force. The Spanish Navy will receive seven navalised helicopters. Deliveries will be staggered from December 2024 to 2028.

The first NH90 for the Spanish Navy in tactical transport version (MSPT) is in the process of finalising its Type Certificate from the Spanish Airworthiness Authority and is already in Albacete awaiting its final delivery to the DGAM in the coming weeks. The Spanish Navy personnel, belonging to the 14th Squadron, have already started their training at the Albacete plant to begin operations with their first NH90.

The new NH90 for the Spanish Air Force is the first NH90 in the Standard 3 configuration. It offers more advanced communications with enhanced encryption capabilities, greater operational safety features and a number of system optimisations.

For its part, the MSPT will significantly increase the Spanish Navy&#8217;s strategic projection capabilities thanks to new onboard equipment such as a reinforced landing gear, a maximum take-off weight of up to 11 tonnes, and the automatic folding of the main rotor blades and rear fuselage.
Spain has 15 NH90 helicopters in FAMET service, known as “Sarrios”, while the Spanish Air and Space Force has six operational NH90 “Lobo”. Both have participated in the relief efforts after the passage of the Dana in Valencia.

Airbus delivers the first NH90 Standard 3 to the Spanish Air and Space Force

Chipsan Aviation received its first <a href="https://aviacionline.com/2023/08/reporte-de-vuelo-una-vuelta-sobre-paris-en-el-airbus-h160-el-helicoptero-civil-mas-avanzado-del-mundo/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Airbus H160</a>, becoming the first operator of this model in India, the aircraft arriving under a lease agreement with GD Helicopter Finance (GDHF).
The company, based in New Delhi, will deploy this helicopter for land-based operations, providing corporate and government services. <a href="https://www.chipsan.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chipsan</a> also has various models from the European manufacturer in its fleet, including the H145 and H135.
GDHF CEO Michael York stated, “GDHF is pleased to announce this delivery, the first introduction of this type into the Indian market and the first of two H160 aircraft for Chipsan. Bell&#8217;s Stop/Fold folding rotor system was subjected to rigorous testing in both wind tunnel and real-world conditions on the ground. These tests served to validate the stability and control of the aircraft during the in-flight rotor folding and unfolding sequence, a key technical challenge in ensuring the viability of aircraft that combine jet speed with vertical takeoff and landing capabilities. With the successful completion of both test phases, the concept is now ready to advance to the next stage of the program, which includes a full-scale flight demonstration.

Bell validates in wind tunnel tests its new Stop/Fold rotor system technology for future HSVTOL aircrafts

The Argentine Army (EA) has received the first two Bell 407 GXi helicopters, intended for liaison and high-altitude rescue operations.
At the end of 2022, the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Argentine Armed Forces (EMCOFFA) awarded Bell Textron Canada a contract for the acquisition of six Bell 407 GXi helicopters. This purchase, carried out jointly between the Argentine Army and the Air Force, includes the delivery of three units to each branch, aiming to replace the venerable SA-315B Lama helicopters in high-altitude missions. During the selection process, proposals from Airbus Helicopters with the H145 model and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) with the LUH Mk-1 were also evaluated.

The replacement of the Lama helicopters is a project dating back to 2011, but its implementation was repeatedly delayed due to the recurring lack of defense resources. However, on December 4, the Joint Military Airworthiness Directorate of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (EMCOFFA) conducted the provisional inspection of two Bell 407 GXi helicopters at Bell&#8217;s facility in Tennessee, United States. These helicopters, the first destined for the Army, are expected to arrive in Argentina during the first quarter of 2025.

Argentine Army Receives First Bell 407 GXi Helicopters for High-Altitude Missions

The Argentine Army launched a tender for the acquisition of three used Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters. This purchase, which includes a comprehensive set of services and spare parts, seeks to provide the Army Aviation Directorate with multi-purpose aircraft, ready to operate in highly demanding scenarios.
The tender, identified with process number 84/7-0942-LPU24, was published today in the official website Comprar (<a href="https://comprar.gob.ar/PLIEGO/VistaPreviaPliegoCiudadano.aspx?qs=BQoBkoMoEhyoaHIzuPUojdm3KDXKordV9UHn8z96NB|pQa6q7peDxpmJCRG0PoK60QtAXq/c/Hv3SA2zD3jo7fFHLziolfKJK/N2Kmz/YyP|69ujuZozMw==v" target="_blank" rel="noopener">comprar.gob.ar</a>). Interested parties have 42 days to submit their proposals, since the bid opening ceremony is scheduled for January 13, 2025 at 08:00 am.
The Argentine Army (EA) is looking to use the UH-60s for a variety of missions including aerial assault, aeromedical evacuation, search and rescue, and civil support tasks such as firefighting.
<h3>Requirements established in the bid</h3>
These helicopters must be configured with visual and instrument flight capabilities (VFR/IFR), night vision goggles (NVG) and specialized equipment such as cargo hooks, rappel and fast-rope systems, as well as two 7.62 mm MAG machine gun shafts per aircraft and provision for auxiliary fuel tanks, both internal and external.
The tender specifies that the aircrafts must have been manufactured after 1990 and meet stringent technical standards. The helicopters will be delivered with an operational potential of at least 480 hours, having completed intermediate maintenance inspections (PMI). In addition, they must incorporate the latest technical improvements recommended by the manufacturer.

The material will be delivered to the Aircraft Supply and Maintenance Battalion 601, located in Campo de Mayo, under the terms of international trade Incoterm 2020, DAP condition. This guarantees that the successful bidder will be responsible for transportation and delivery at destination.
<h3>Training and support</h3>
The program also includes initial simulator training courses for pilots and co-pilots, while technical personnel will receive training in preventive and corrective maintenance. The courses will cover key systems such as engines, dynamic components and avionics, and will be conducted in Spanish.
In addition, the contract includes technical support for 36 months, with a representative stationed at Campo de Mayo to assist in the start-up and maintenance of the aircraft.
Finally, the aircraft must be backed by a warranty of 12 months or 960 flight hours, whichever comes first. The supplier must guarantee an initial stock of spare parts for both preventive and corrective maintenance, as well as the necessary logistics to meet critical needs in less than 96 hours.
<h3>Bidder eligibility</h3>
Companies registered in the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program of the United States, with verifiable experience in the maintenance of Sikorsky UH-60 helicopters, may participate. They must also have a workshop in Argentina that complies with the Military Airworthiness Regulations, with at least five years of experience in this type of aircraft.
<h3>A small step on the right path</h3>
Although the incorporation of only three used Black Hawk helicopters is insufficient to meet the urgent need to replace dozens of old UH-1 Huey helicopters, it represents a first, albeit modest, step towards modernization by the Argentine Army. This initiative aims at equipping the force with operational capabilities in accordance with international standards and 21st century warfare requirements.

As more resources are allocated for the modernization of the Argentine Army&#8217;s helicopter fleet, further UH-60 Black Hawk acquisitions are expected. However, a “one-for-one” replacement of the veteran UH-1 Huey seems unlikely. More probable is the prioritization of a dozen or more Black Hawk additions for high-demand missions, such as air assault and combat search and rescue (CSAR). For liaison and logistic support tasks, currently performed by the Huey, it would make sense to look for a more economical alternative.
In this regard, Airbus Helicopters has already <a style="color: #ff0000;" href="https://aviacionline.com/2024/08/helicopteros-dauphin-y-lakota-airbus-propone-renovacion-costo-efectiva-para-la-armada-y-el-ejercito-argentino/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">offered its UH-72B Lakota</a>, available through the FMS program, while India is keeping active its proposal for the HAL LUH (Light Utility Helicopter) MK-1 and the Dhruv medium utility helicopter. It should be recalled that in July 2023, the Argentine government signed a <a style="color: #ff0000;" href="https://aviacionline.com/2023/07/argentina-signs-letter-of-intent-in-india-for-the-acquisition-of-medium-and-light-helicopters/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter of intent</a> with India to explore this option.

Argentine Army launches tender to purchase used Black Hawk helicopters

Rotor Technologies presented its advancements in agricultural aviation last week with the flight of the Sprayhawk, the world&#8217;s largest and most advanced agricultural unmanned aerial vehicle (commonly known as a drone), during an exclusive event at Perot Field Alliance Airport in Fort Worth, Texas.
The event, held in partnership with Hillwood and the Helicopter Institute on November 20, brought together over 200 leaders in the aviation industry, who witnessed the historic flight and celebrated significant announcements from the company.
The live demonstration of the Sprayhawk kicked off the event. Piloted from a ground control station by Rotor&#8217;s chief pilot, Joao Magioni, the UAV performed a complete startup procedure, hovered in front of the audience, executed turning maneuvers, demonstrated its integrated spray system, and landed after approximately five minutes in the air.
Following the flight, Rotor CEO <a href="https://rotor.ai/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hector Xu</a> provided an overview of the company&#8217;s progress over the past year, highlighting the announcement of the Sprayhawk in August 2024, the growing industry interest in the platform, and the planned start of deliveries in 2025. Xu also confirmed the suggested pricing for 2025 models and estimated delivery dates, noting that early buyers will have access to special pricing until December 15, 2024.
The R550 Airtruck, which includes the ground control station (GCS) and a transport trailer, is listed at $1.35 million for 2025, with an introductory price of $850,000 available until December 15, 2024.
Meanwhile, the Sprayhawk R550 «ready to spray», equipped with a spray tank, boom, and navigation system, is priced at $1.5 million, with a promotional price of $990,000.
Retrofit packages also offer attractive options: the Airtruck Retrofit, to convert an existing R44, costs $550,000, while the fully equipped Sprayhawk Retrofit is priced at $700,000, both featuring significant discounts during the introductory period, reducing the prices to $375,000 and $525,000, respectively.

The company also unveiled a new retrofit package for all Robinson R44 models, extending autonomous flight capabilities to an existing fleet of over 6,000 units currently in service. Until now, only new Sprayhawks were available for pre-order, with the Robinson R44 Raven II serving as the standard platform.
Attendees had the opportunity to closely explore the Sprayhawk and its ground control station, as well as to network with Rotor&#8217;s new Vice President of Commercialization, Andy Mearns, and the flight team.
The Sprayhawk prototype displayed is the first of two units undergoing testing before entering joint operations with a select group of operators in the United States as part of Rotor’s Joint Development Program. <h4>Technical specifications of the R550 Sprayhawk</h4>
The <a href="https://rotor.ai/r550-sprayhawk" target="_blank" rel="noopener">R550 Sprayhawk</a> is designed for advanced agricultural operations, offering a maximum payload capacity of 110 gallons (416 liters), a maximum takeoff weight of 2,500 pounds (1,134 kg), and a flight endurance of 50 minutes.
Its operational range is 8 km (5 miles), limited to operations within visual line of sight (VLOS). It can operate up to 1,500 feet (500 m) AGL or 14,000 feet (4,300 m) MSL, depending on conditions.
It is equipped with a fly-by-wire flight control system and an advanced sensor suite including front, side, and downward-facing cameras, downward LIDAR, and a radar altimeter, as well as redundant communication options with LOS and LTE radios.
It offers autopilot modes such as augmented stability, waypoint tracking, and terrain following, along with autonomous functions like automated spray patterns and emergency return-to-home.
Operation requires a minimum of three personnel: a remote pilot, a visual observer, and a spray loading technician. It complies with 44807 exemption regulations for commercial agricultural operations in the United States and does not require an export license in countries such as Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

Medical Flights: Global Medical Response Places Order for 28 Airbus Helicopters

The Netherlands Ministry of Defense awarded Airbus Helicopters a contract for 12 H225M helicopters, which also includes an initial batch of support and services. The agreement was signed by Vice Admiral Jan Willem Hartman, Head of the Dutch agency Command Materiel and IT (COMMIT), and Bruno Even, CEO of Airbus Helicopters during the world&#8217;s largest maritime defense exhibition, Euronaval 2024 in Paris.

The Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) currently operates H215M family Cougars, which will be upgraded to extend their operational life until 2030, when they will begin to be replaced by the new H225M Caracal, whose delivery will be extended until 2032. These specially configured and equipped helicopters will be operated by the newly created 300th Special Operations Squadron of the RNLAF, having its home at Gilze-Rijen airbase.
<h2>SOF operations support</h2>
Special Operations Forces (SOF) activities are military actions carried out by specially trained, organized and equipped units to perform complex security missions. RNLAF supports these missions with a dozen Cougar helicopters, which the Caracal will replace.
Due to the deteriorating security situation in Europe, the Dutch Ministry of Defense planned to increase the number of helicopters to support SOF missions to 14. However, during the procurement process, it was found that the budget was not sufficient, partly because the equipment required for these missions turned out to be more expensive than planned. For this reason, the Ministry has now decided to procure 12 H225M aircraft.

Although the desired number of aircrafts could not be procured, the H225M represents a significant advance over the Cougar helicopters it will replace. This model features new avionics, an upgraded main gearbox and advanced airborne communication systems, as well as the ability to be equipped with the HForce weapon system. Its maximum takeoff weight has increased by 160 kg to 11,160 kg.

Netherlands orders 12 Airbus H225M Caracal helicopters for Special Operations

Airbus Helicopters and Canadian company SkyAlyne have signed a major contract for the acquisition of 19 H135 helicopters, which will be used to provide training for future Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) helicopter pilots. This contract is part of Canada&#8217;s Future Aircrew Training (FAcT) program and marks the first time Airbus helicopters will operate within the Canadian Armed Forces.
As for SkyAlyne, this company was formed in 2018 as a partnership between CAE and KF Aerospace, two Canadian leaders in aviation, training and defense. The partnership was created to jointly bid on the Government of Canada&#8217;s FAcT program. In 2023, SkyAlyne was named preferred bidder and, in 2024, was officially contracted to execute the FAcT program.

The 25-year FAcT program, awarded to SkyAlyne in 2024, will unify over five years the RCAF&#8217;s three current pilot training programs, which are nearing their contractual end date. Overseen from Ottawa, it will operate at bases in Moose Jaw, Southport and Winnipeg. Once operational, the Canadian fleet of H135s, in partnership with the RCAF, will be based at the 3rd Flight Training School in Southport, MB.
The twin-engine H135 helicopters will be assembled and delivered from Airbus Helicopters&#8217; industrial plant in Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada. They will be retrofitted with a series of domestically developed Supplemental Type Certificates, which include avionics and communications system upgrades, as well as specific cockpit customizations. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the first half of 2026.

In addition to the acquisition of the H135 aircraft, Airbus&#8217; agreement with SkyAlyne includes a support and services package, support for the development of a Ground Training Solution and advanced engineering support for in-service certification.
With more than 400,000 flight hours in a dedicated military training role, the H135 is used for basic ab-initio, advanced IFR and tactical training, with operators including several of Canada&#8217;s closest military allies, such as Australia and the United Kingdom.

South Korea is reconsidering its plans to procure 36 AH-64E Apache combat helicopters, following the heavy casualties suffered by Russian helicopters in the war with Ukraine.
The Republic of Cora Army (ROKA) currently operates a fleet of 36 AH-64E Apache helicopters, ordered in 2013 to replace its aging Bell AH-1S Cobra, which were delivered between 2016 and 2017, and had plans to double its fleet with a new order.

<h2>Future of attack helicopters in question</h2>
However, the growing number of Russian combat and assault helicopters shot down by drones, anti-tank missiles and man-portable air defense systems (<a href="https://aviacionline.com/2022/03/manpads-in-ukraine-the-return-of-russian-aircrafts-biggest-fear/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">MANPADS</a>) has led many military analysts to question the viability of these aircraft in today&#8217;s high-intensity warfare scenarios. The Japanese Ministry of Defense was one of the first to warn about the high risks faced by helicopters on modern battlefields. Even the Pentagon decided to suspend its Future Attack and Reconnaissance Aircraft (FARA) program, intended to provide the U.S. Army with a new generation of armed reconnaissance aircraft to replace the Bell OH-58 Kiowa, based on “lessons learned” and a “sober assessment of the modern battlefield. Now it is South Korea that is expressing its doubts.

According to the South Korean newspaper Chosun, a military source informed them that “the Ministry of Defense, the Army and the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) have begun a comprehensive review, which includes the option of reducing the number of Apache helicopters to be procured.” Senior military commanders are questioning the utility of attack helicopters, given the effect in Ukraine of the widespread implementation of unmanned weapons systems, which are much cheaper and quicker to produce and deploy on the battlefield.
In the Ministry of Defense and ROKA, it seems that more and more voices are openly questioning the need to spend almost 70% of the annual budget for improving the Army&#8217;s capabilities on the purchase of the Apache. According to the unnamed source quoted by Chosun, the AH-64 procurement program is likely to suffer a significant cut in the number of units, or even be cancelled altogether, in order to devote these funds to new and emerging technologies.

Lessons from the war in Ukraine: South Korea reconsiders purchase of Apache helicopters

Airbus successfully presented the feasibility of the UH-72B Lakota helicopter for adaptation as a vertical-lift drone in a demonstration to the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC). This first demo of the program, conducted at Marine Corps Air Station New River and Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, supports the USMC&#8217;s Aerial Logistics Connector contract.
The demonstration evaluated the UH-72B Lakota&#8217;s performance characteristics and validated its ability to carry specialized cargo. It also highlighted Airbus&#8217; approaches to meeting Marine Corps requirements for an Aerial Logistics Connector system designed to support forward operations at expeditionary bases.

This event is part of Aerial Logistics Connector&#8217;s Mid-Tier Acquisition (MTA) Rapid Prototyping Program, which aims to provide the service with prototype aircraft to demonstrate their capabilities through a series of operational demonstrations and experiments. Future demonstrations will provide more information on the aircraft&#8217;s capabilities and will focus on the modifications necessary for the aircraft to meet Marine Corps requirements to operate autonomously and carry specialized cargo. These demonstrations will continue through the remainder of 2024 and 2025 and will inform future acquisition decisions for the opportunity to build prototype aircraft.
In May 2024, Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) awarded Airbus U.S. Space &amp; Defense a Phase I Transactional Authority Agreement, through the Naval Air Systems Consortium, based on its unmanned UH-72 Aerial Logistics Connector concept , a variant of the proven UH-72 Lakota platform.
The Aerial Logistics Connector program is one of several efforts across the U.S. Department of Defense to provide logistics support in distributed environments during conflicts with technologically peer or near-peer adversaries.
Airbus touts the conversion of the UH-72 platform as an affordable, low-risk solution for combat logistics in the expeditionary environment.

For the USMC demonstration, Airbus presented a Lakota mockup modified to operate as an unmanned cargo aircraft. By eliminating the crew stations, interior space was maximized, allowing cargo to be carried along the entire length of the fuselage. Its innovative design, which includes rear clamshell doors, side doors and the ability to open the forward fuselage, would make this aircraft a highly versatile platform for transporting bulky cargo, including standard containers. The open cockpit significantly facilitates loading and unloading operations.
