Paraguayan Air Force begins acceptance process for new A-29 Super Tucano aircraft in Brazil
With the new Super Tucanos, the Paraguayan Air Force aims to strengthen its surveillance, interdiction, and close air support capabilities.
The Paraguayan Air Force (FAP) has confirmed that a delegation led by Lieutenant Colonel Fabio Crispín Candia Melgarejo, commander of the Tactical Air Group, is in Brazil participating in the acceptance process for the force’s new A-29 Super Tucano aircraft.
According to official statements, the Paraguayan representatives are conducting test flights and reviewing technical documentation at Embraer’s facility as part of the pre-delivery procedures.
These activities are standard in aircraft acquisition programs and are essential for validating the general condition of the aircraft, confirming compliance with contract specifications, and preparing personnel for the safe and effective operation of the new systems.
Paraguay’s Super Tucanos are part of a six-aircraft order signed in May 2024, financed by Brazil’s National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) for 600 million Brazilian reais. The first two aircraft are already completed and are at Embraer’s facility in Gavião Peixoto, São Paulo, featuring a green and brown camouflage scheme with gray undersides.
With this acquisition, the FAP aims to strengthen its surveillance, interdiction, and close air support capabilities through a proven platform already in use by other Latin American air forces, including Brazil, Colombia, and Chile. The Paraguayan aircraft are equipped with underwing fuel tanks, enhancing their operational range.
While no official delivery date has been announced, the first units are expected to arrive in Paraguay in the coming weeks. The Air Force emphasized that this procurement marks a “significant advancement” in its operational capacity and reaffirms its commitment to modernizing and defending the country’s airspace.
