Portugal-Brazil: Azul to operate Recife-Porto route with Airbus A330 aircraft
Azul Linhas Aéreas will launch a new route connecting Recife and Porto starting in June, with ticket sales beginning January 30. The route, operated with Airbus A330 aircraft, strengthens Recife's position as Azul's third-largest hub and marks the airline's return to Porto, its second destination in Portugal
The Ministry of Ports and Airports announced on social media that ticket sales will begin on January 30 for flights between Recife (REC), the capital of Pernambuco, and Porto (OPO), Portugal. The route will be operated by Azul Linhas Aéreas.
This announcement comes nearly a year after Recife City Hall, through its Secretariat of Tourism and Leisure, unveiled plans to establish this unprecedented route.
According to our partner media Aeroin, the route will be served with Airbus A330-200 and A330-900 aircraft, configured to seat 249 to 298 passengers. Operations are scheduled to start in June, with three weekly flights.
The route was originally announced in April last year but was delayed due to the rising dollar and operational challenges at Azul, particularly related to its widebody fleet.
This new route also marks Azul's return to Porto, its second destination in Portugal. Before the pandemic, the airline operated three weekly flights from Campinas/Viracopos (VCP).
From Porto, Recife will offer connections to 47 destinations within Brazil through Azul's network. Recife is Azul's third-largest hub in the country. With this addition, Azul’s international destinations now include Asunción (seasonal), Montevideo, Fort Lauderdale, and Orlando.
Lastly, Porto will gain its third connection to Brazil. TAP Air Portugal currently operates flights to São Paulo/Guarulhos (GRU) and Rio de Janeiro/Galeão (GIG) with 3 and 2 weekly flights, respectively.
