Qantas is preparing to resume its regular flights to New York for the first time since 2020.
Starting from June 14, the company will offer three weekly connections from Sydney via Auckland, New Zealand, using Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft with a capacity of 236 passengers in three cabins: 42 in Business Class, 28 in Premium Economy, and 166 in Economy. Previously, the service between Australia’s largest city and New York made a stopover in Los Angeles.

Qantas returns to New York
Flight QF 3 will depart from Sydney’s Kingsford Smith International Airport (SYD) every Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday at 09:30, local time. After a three-hour journey over the Tasman Sea, it will land at Auckland International Airport (AKL). The aircraft will remain there for two hours before taking off for John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), a flight that will last around 17 hours.
The return service, marketed as QF 4, will depart from New York at 19:30, local time.
The new route will become the third longest in Qantas’ entire network, surpassed only by the connection between Perth (PER) and London-Heathrow (LHR), and slightly shorter than the route between Melbourne (MEL) and Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW).
Markus Svensson, CEO of the company, emphasized that the «Big Apple» is one of the favorite destinations for Australians traveling for both leisure and business purposes.
During the summer season of 2023, Qantas will offer flights to five destinations in North America: in addition to the aforementioned return to New York, there will be connections to Los Angeles (LAX), Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), San Francisco (SFO), and Vancouver (YVR).

Renewed Service
The carrier will offer a new menu on the route, available to passengers in the upper cabins. Neil Perry, Creative Director of Food, Beverage and Service at Qantas, was in charge of creating a series of «New York-inspired» dishes, which will be added to the recently revamped food and beverage offerings.
Furthermore, and for a limited time, Business Class passengers will have access to a navy blue sleeper suit set with motifs related to the route, designed by Rebecca Vallance. They will also receive an updated amenity kit and personal grooming items.
«It is an honour to partner with the iconic Australian brand that is Qantas», emphasized the designer. «New York has always felt like a second home to me, and I am so proud to be working with the national carrier to offer travellers some keepsake PJ’s and amenity kits to enjoy long after they have landed», she added.
