Riyadh Air is currently in negotiations for an additional order of 50 wide-body aircraft from Boeing and Airbus, according to a report by Bloomberg. This move is part of the airline’s expansion strategy to establish Saudi Arabia as a global aviation hub.
The airline is considering adding Airbus A350-1000 and Boeing 777X models—aircraft that have recently been ordered by major carriers like Air India, Delta Air Lines, Lufthansa, EVA Air, Korean Air, and Ethiopian Airlines to replace older planes and expand their fleets. Riyadh Air is securing delivery slots amid ongoing production delays and component shortages, which have made slot availability increasingly difficult.
Currently, Riyadh Air has 60 Airbus A321neo and 39 Boeing 787 aircraft on order. CEO Tony Douglas stated that the airline is evaluating an additional wide-body aircraft order for Q2 2025, though specific details have not yet been disclosed.
In addition to fleet expansion, the airline has signed agreements with Air China, China Eastern Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Egyptair, Singapore Airlines, and Virgin Atlantic to enhance its global connectivity.
