Ryanair Announces Summer 2025 Schedule for Budapest with 68 Routes and Four New Destinations
Ryanair in Budapest launches four new routes to destinations in Spain, France, Poland, and the United Kingdom.
Ryanair has unveiled its Summer 2025 schedule for Budapest, featuring over 640 weekly flights across 68 routes, reinforcing its position as the leading airline at the Hungarian airport. The offering includes four new destinations: Castellón (Spain), Katowice (Poland), Liverpool (UK), and Toulouse (France).
As part of its expansion, the airline will have 10 aircraft based in Budapest, including two Boeing 737 8-200 jets, representing a $1 billion investment in Hungary. With this expansion, annual passenger traffic is expected to reach 5.6 million travelers, marking a 13% increase compared to the previous year.
Beyond connectivity, Ryanair also anticipates the creation of over 4,200 indirect jobs, further strengthening the aviation and tourism sectors in the region.
Impact of the Aviation Tax Elimination
The airline's growth aligns with the recent decision by the Hungarian government to abolish the aviation tax, a measure aimed at improving air connectivity, boosting tourism, and reducing costs for passengers and businesses. With this move, Hungary joins Italy, Sweden, Slovakia, and Albania, countries that have implemented similar policies to stimulate air traffic.
However, this government initiative faces challenges. Ryanair’s Chief Commercial Officer, Jason McGuinness, warned about the risk posed by increasing airport charges in Budapest, which, according to him, could counteract the benefits of the tax elimination.
“The airports that achieve the best results in terms of traffic, connectivity, and tourism are those that collaborate and do not seek to profit at the expense of others,” McGuinness stated, emphasizing that such increases could harm Budapest’s competitiveness as a destination.
