San Salvador Airport Breaks Passenger Records with 5.3 Million Travelers in 2024
The continuous expansion of services and the growth in passenger and cargo volumes highlight the airport’s increasing importance in the region. With the support of leading carriers such as Avianca and Volaris, and its recognition for operational punctuality, San Salvador International Airport is positioning itself as a key player in Central America’s aviation network
In 2024, El Salvador’s San Óscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez International Airport increased passenger traffic by 16.3% compared to 2023, according to data from the Autonomous Port Executive Commission (CEPA).
Last year, the airport recorded a total of 5,298,491 passengers, setting a new record and solidifying its position as the third most important airport in Central America, after San José (SJO) and Panama City/Tocumen (PTY).
Of the total passengers, 41.3% were arrivals, 39.3% departures, 18.6% connecting travelers, and 0.8% in transit. This underscores the airport's growing relevance as a connection hub, largely supported by the operations of Avianca and Volaris in San Salvador.
Additionally, the terminal was recognized by Cirium as the fourth most punctual airport worldwide in the small airport category, achieving an on-time performance rate of 89.33% in 2024.
In terms of air cargo, exports from the airport increased by 27% from January to December 2024, handling a total of 35.9 million kilograms of goods, according to CEPA.
