SAS inaugurated its flights to Madrid
Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) has resumed operations in Madrid (MAD) as part of its broader European expansion strategy, following its entry into the SkyTeam alliance in September 2024. This marks the largest deployment in the airline’s history.
The Spanish capital is now connected to Copenhagen (CPH) with six weekly flights operated by Airbus A320neo aircraft, configured for 180 passengers, offering a total of 2,160 seats per week between the two cities.

SAS returns to Madrid-Barajas Airport after an 11-year absence. Its last scheduled service to the city was in October 2014, operating flights from both Copenhagen and Stockholm.
Beyond the route relaunch, the Scandinavian carrier has expanded its regional network through a codeshare agreement with Air Europa, signed in January and facilitated by its recent SkyTeam membership.
The partnership allows SAS to offer connections to Lisbon and Porto in Portugal, as well as to several Spanish destinations including A Coruña, Alicante, Barcelona, Bilbao, Málaga, Gran Canaria, Palma de Mallorca, Tenerife Norte, and Vigo.
During the summer season, the agreement will extend to include destinations in North Africa, the Caribbean, and South America. In the latter region, SAS will also connect to Argentina through a similar collaboration with Aerolíneas Argentinas.
