Silver Airways Abruptly Cancels Flights to Orlando International Airport
Silver Airways operated in Orlando with up to five daily flights to four destinations in Florida and the Bahamas.
This past weekend, Silver Airways abruptly canceled its flights to Orlando International Airport (MCO), the fifth most significant hub in its network.
Until the suspension, the airline operated two daily flights to Key West and Pensacola, three weekly flights to Fort Lauderdale, and one weekly flight to Marsh Harbour in the Bahamas.
According to Angela Starke, Senior Vice President of Public Affairs and Community Relations at MCO, the airport administration received a notice on Friday afternoon stating that, effective immediately, all Silver Airways arrivals and departures were canceled.
The sudden move left hundreds of passengers stranded over the weekend. Additionally, AirNav data suggests there are no signs of the airline resuming operations in Orlando in the short term. Despite the situation, Silver Airways has not issued an official statement on its digital platforms. However, it has removed ticket sales for the four affected destinations from MCO.
Financial Struggles and Previous Cancellations
This marks the second abrupt operational suspension by Silver Airways since the airline filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in late December 2024 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida. The company stated that the move aims to secure additional capital and undergo financial restructuring to strengthen its market position.
In January 2025, the airline also canceled flights to Anguilla after the island’s government revoked its operating permit due to unpaid fees.
Currently, Silver Airways operates a fleet of eight ATR 42 and six ATR 72 aircraft. According to data from Aviacionline, sourced through Cirium, the airline maintains bases in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Fort Lauderdale, connecting 20 destinations across Florida, the Bahamas, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Dutch Caribbean.
