Slovakia joins the list of NATO countries that are betting on the Embraer C-390 Millennium

The Slovakian Ministry of Defense signed a Letter of Intent with its Brazilian counterpart, with the purpose of strengthening industrial cooperation between the two countries. During his visit to Brazil, the Slovakian Minister of Defense highlighted the Embraer C-390 Millennium as the most suitable alternative to meet the requirements of its future military transport aircraft.

The strategic relevance of Slovakia’s neighboring countries also choosing the C-390 was also highlighted, which would generate synergies in terms of training, logistics and cooperation in the development of future capabilities of their respective fleets. The Slovakian Ministry of Defense will start negotiations for the acquisition of three C-390 aircraft in January 2025.

“The C-390 is currently the best aircraft in its category due to its low operating cost, versatility and reliability, being able to perform the most diverse missions anytime, anywhere. We are confident that the C-390 is the most suitable aircraft to meet the needs of the Slovak Air Force,” said Bosco da Costa Junior, president and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security.

The C-390 Millennium is fast becoming the most popular choice among European NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) member countries and their allies. The aircraft contributes to the modernization of armed forces, adds new capabilities and improves interoperability with allied forces. The C-390 is already in operation in Portugal and Hungary, and has been acquired by the Netherlands, Austria and the Czech Republic, in addition to Sweden, which recently selected the aircraft. Brazil and South Korea complete the growing list of nations that have opted for this model.

Since entering service with the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) in 2019 and the Portuguese Air Force in 2023, the operational fleet has accumulated more than 15,500 flight hours, with an operational availability of 93% and mission accomplishment rates above 99%, demonstrating exceptional productivity in its category.
