Strategic Agreement Between Icelandair and Southwest Airlines to Boost Connectivity
Icelandair and Southwest Airlines have entered into a strategic partnership to expand connectivity through key hubs like Baltimore, Nashville, and Denver, offering seamless travel to Iceland and Europe starting February 2024. This marks Southwest’s first-ever airline partnership, bringing new opportunities for both carriers' customers
Icelandair and Southwest Airlines signed a strategic partnership agreement on January 15. This collaboration will provide customers with easy access to the networks of both airlines through Baltimore, starting in February.
In 2024, the two airlines formalized their strategic partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), designating Baltimore as the initial connecting hub. Additionally, Nashville and Denver will become connecting points, allowing customers to travel seamlessly through these cities to Iceland and Europe.
“We are very excited to have formalized our partnership with Southwest and honored to be chosen as Southwest's first partner airline. The alliance will open exciting new opportunities for our customers, providing access to Southwest's numerous destinations in North America. Southwest's customers will, in turn, benefit from our extensive connections to Iceland and Europe,” said Tómas Ingason, Chief Commercial Officer of Icelandair.
“It's fitting for us to begin this chapter of industry-standard airline partnerships with our long-time friends, Icelandair. Beyond the ability to offer each other's customers access to new destinations and similar travel experiences centered on hospitality and value, we are grateful to have been guided by their expertise and best practices in creating our program,” said Ryan Green, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer of Southwest Airlines.
