Swissport to manage Lufthansa operations at Heathrow starting April 2025

Swissport International will take over ground services management for Lufthansa Group airlines at London Heathrow Airport starting in April 2025. The five-year contract includes a wide range of services for more than 40 daily flights, as stated by the company.
The agreement covers all operations of Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa, and SWISS at one of the busiest airports in the world. Services provided by Swissport will include passenger assistance, ramp handling, baggage management, aircraft cleaning, air cargo handling, and VIP lounge hospitality.
“We are very proud to expand our strong partnership with Lufthansa Group at its largest airport outside Europe,” said Karen Cox, CEO of Swissport UK and Ireland. “Our commitment to safety, sustainability, innovation, and excellence in customer service aligns closely with the group’s goals to achieve operational efficiency and passenger satisfaction,” she added.
To ensure a smooth launch of operations, Swissport plans significant investments in ground service equipment, including introducing over 80% electric motorized vehicles. Additionally, the company highlights that each new vehicle will feature advanced damage prevention systems.
Swissport already provides ground services for Lufthansa Group at other airports in the UK and Ireland, such as Newcastle, Dublin, Birmingham, London Gatwick, and Cork. It also handles air cargo at its specialized hubs in Heathrow. With this contract, the company strengthens its presence in the UK airport services market, where it employs more than 800 people and collaborates with around 40 airlines at Heathrow.
