TAAG Angola Airlines Receives First Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner as Part of Fleet Renewal
TAAG Angola Airlines has received its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, marking the beginning of its wide-body fleet modernization and expansion into new markets.
TAAG Angola Airlines continues its fleet renewal plan with the arrival of its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, registered as D2-TEQ and named "Namibe". The aircraft landed at Dr. Antonio Agostinho Neto International Airport in Luanda on January 29, 2025, following its delivery from Everett, United States.
Modernizing Long-Haul Operations
This aircraft is part of a four-unit order, consisting of two 787-9s and two 787-10s, aimed at modernizing TAAG’s long-haul fleet and improving fuel efficiency. With the introduction of the 787-10, TAAG will become the first African airline to operate this model.
The new livery on TAAG’s 787 features an image of the Palanca, Angola’s national symbol, on the tail and engines. The design also commemorates the 50th anniversary of the country’s independence. The aircraft was leased through AerCap, a strategic partner supporting the airline’s fleet expansion.

Expanding Global Reach
The Boeing 787 will complement TAAG’s current long-haul fleet, which includes Boeing 777-200ER and 777-300ER aircraft, forming the backbone of the airline’s international routes. The addition of these new jets is expected to drive TAAG’s expansion into Europe, North America, and Asia, strengthening its position in key global markets.
Regional Fleet Upgrades
Alongside its wide-body modernization, TAAG is also upgrading its regional operations with the acquisition of 15 Airbus A220s, set to replace its aging Boeing 737-700 fleet.
With these strategic upgrades, TAAG aims to enhance its competitiveness in both the African and international markets, aligning its fleet with more fuel-efficient aircraft while improving the passenger experience.
