Thailand Invests $106 Million to Modernize Aviation Infrastructure
The country expands its infrastructure to increase passenger flow.
Thailand is making a significant investment of 3.6 billion baht (approximately $106 million) to upgrade its aviation infrastructure and establish itself as the region’s leading aviation hub by 2037.
The project includes modernizing air traffic management systems and constructing three new international airports, according to the Vietnam News Agency, a TV BRICS network partner.
Expanding Air Traffic Capacity
Aeronautical Radio of Thailand (AEROTHAI) has stated that the air traffic control system upgrade will increase the country's operational capacity from 1.2 million to 2 million flights per year. Additionally, the new international airports are expected to be completed by 2030, according to TV BRICS.
Privately Funded, No Public Debt Increase
A key feature of the project is that it will be funded through private investment, without state guarantees, ensuring that it does not contribute to public debt. AEROTHAI also plans to implement digital control towers at major Thai airports by 2026, aligning with international safety standards.
Strengthening Thailand’s Position as a Regional Aviation Hub
These technological improvements will not only enhance air traffic efficiency but also manage the growing passenger flow, which is expected to continue expanding in the coming years. With these initiatives, Thailand aims to solidify its status as a key aviation hub in Southeast Asia, attracting more flights and international passengers.
