The special moment of the Boeing 747’s landing in Porto Alegre on Sunday, April 20, drew a large crowd around Salgado Filho International Airport.
A video shared by Adriel Tavares on his YouTube channel captures the grassy area of Boulevard Laçador, a popular viewing spot near the airport, packed with families and aviation enthusiasts as the iconic Jumbo Jet touched down.
According to Fraport Brasil, the company managing the airport in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, the arrival of the massive Jumbo and the operational complexity it entails is considered a historic event for the city’s aviation scene. The aircraft, registration N936CA, with its striking red-and-gold livery, belongs to the U.S.-based National Airlines.
Although its livery differs from the airline’s standard cargo colors, this is because the aircraft previously flew for Global Super Tanker, a company known for fighting wildfires—including missions in Chile.

As reported by our Brazilian partner outlet, AEROIN, the aircraft departed from Seoul, South Korea, making two technical stops: one in Anchorage, Alaska, and another in Dallas, Texas.
The aircraft transported 40 tons of high-tech machinery intended for production use in Rio Grande do Sul. The shipment was requested by HT Micron Semicondutores, a Brazilian provider of advanced semiconductor solutions and part of the South Korean Hana Micron group. The equipment will be used to manufacture a new line of integrated circuits for computers and smartphones.
Although the Boeing 747 is a regular presence in Brazil—both in passenger and cargo configurations—it only operates at a handful of airports such as Guarulhos (SP), Viracopos-Campinas (SP), Galeão-Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Curitiba-São José dos Pinhais (PR), and Manaus (AM). In South America, the Jumbo is generally limited to cargo operations, with the exception of Lufthansa’s passenger flights to Buenos Aires, São Paulo, and Mexico, which are served by Boeing 747-8s.
That’s why, when a one-off operation like this takes place in cities outside those hubs, the iconic Jumbo attracts the attention of all who admire its size and historical legacy.
