Trump removes the TSA Administrator he himself appointed in 2017
Donald Trump begins a restructuring in the aviation sector with the departure of David Pekoske as head of the TSA. This move, along with other changes at the FAA and the Department of Transportation, marks the beginning of a new chapter for key security and transportation agencies in the United States
The President of the United States, upon his return to power, has begun making adjustments in key agencies within the transportation and national security sectors. Among the most notable moves is the removal of David Pekoske as Administrator of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), a position he had held since 2017.
Pekoske, initially appointed by Trump during his first term, was reappointed in 2022 under Joe Biden's administration. During his tenure, he oversaw more than 60,000 employees and 440 airports across the United States, solidifying his role as a key figure in aviation security. However, his departure reflects President Trump’s interest in placing figures aligned with his priorities in strategic positions.
More changes in aviation agencies
Pekoske’s departure was not the only significant change. Mike Whitaker, who served as Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), also submitted his resignation. Additionally, Sean Duffy, former congressman and Fox News media figure, assumed the position of Secretary of Transportation on January 15, succeeding Pete Buttigieg.
