Investigators in the United Arab Emirates are analyzing an incident involving engine damage on an Emirates Airbus A380 shortly after takeoff from Dubai. The flight, which departed from Runway 12R bound for Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, took off on February 6.
According to the French Bureau of Enquiry and Analysis for Civil Aviation Safety (BEA), citing its UAE counterpart, the aircraft experienced a “loud noise” and a “slight vibration” during its initial climb through 1,000 feet.
Crew Response and Return to Dubai
Despite the alert, the crew decided to continue ascending. However, upon reaching 5,000 feet, a cabin crew member reported visible “damage” to the left engine’s nacelle.
At 12,000 feet, after assessing the situation, the crew opted to return to Dubai. The A380 landed safely on Runway 12L. The BEA identified the aircraft as A6-EOL, powered by Engine Alliance GP7200 engines, as reported by AEROIN, our media partner.
Investigation and Current Status
So far, UAE's General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has not disclosed the extent of the damage or the possible cause of the incident. However, the aircraft has already returned to service, suggesting that after thorough assessments and repairs, operational safety was not significantly compromised.
