Ukraine Deploys Anti-Drone Protection Structures on Key Roads
Ukraine is reinforcing key roads with protective tunnels against FPV drones. The measure aims to reduce the impact of attacks on military convoys.
Ukrainian forces have begun installing protective structures against drones on key roads near the front line, aiming to counter the growing threat of FPV (First-Person View) drones. These drones have been widely used in the conflict with Russia for precision strikes against convoys and military positions.
A New Phase in Anti-Drone Defense
Images circulating on social media show the construction of makeshift tunnels using wooden poles and netting over roads. These structures are designed to reduce drone visibility and maneuverability. According to Militarnyi, one of the protected routes is located in the Sumy region, while other locations remain undisclosed for operational security reasons.
The primary goal of these installations is to create safe corridors for troop and equipment movement, making it harder for suicide drones to hit their targets. A similar strategy was previously implemented by Russian forces near Kupiansk in 2024, where they deployed fishing nets to intercept FPV drones. According to Russia’s TASS news agency, this material proved more effective than traditional metal mesh, as it increased the likelihood of entangling drones before detonation.

Innovations in Drone Warfare
In addition to these protective structures, Ukraine has recently tested a new weapon designed to neutralize drones mid-flight. This "net rifle" can fire a 3.5 x 3.5-meter net up to 30 meters, aiming to entangle drone rotors and force them to land without detonating. This technology, previously used in other conflicts to intercept small UAVs, represents another advancement in electronic warfare in the region.
The increasing sophistication of anti-drone measures in the Russia-Ukraine war highlights the critical role of UAVs on the battlefield. As drone attacks become more precise and lethal, both sides are racing to develop creative solutions to protect critical infrastructure and reduce combat casualties.
