VOEPASS has filed for preparatory legal protection to safeguard its creditors while reorganizing its debt and cash flow. This measure, submitted on February 3, 2025, aims to ensure the airline’s financial sustainability and maintain connectivity between smaller cities and major urban centers. In many cases, this step precedes a formal judicial recovery request.
According to the airline, its route operations and ticket sales will continue as usual, preserving job stability for its employees. However, VOEPASS is facing severe financial challenges, exacerbated by the Flight 2283 crash in August 2024, which resulted in 62 fatalities, along with other industry-wide difficulties.
Commitment to Compensation and Business Continuity
Despite the accident’s financial impact and its effect on expansion plans, VOEPASS has assured that the restructuring process will not affect compensation payments to the affected families, as these are being handled by the airline’s insurance provider.
CEO José Luiz Felício Filho highlighted the airline’s resilience over its three decades of operation, emphasizing its pioneering role in expanding Brazil’s regional air network. "We were pioneers in connecting cities without commercial flights, promoting regional development," Felício stated.
Financial Setbacks and Industry Challenges
Until mid-2024, VOEPASS had a strong financial position and an extensive route network, enabling its growth and expansion. However, the Flight 2283 disaster and other factors disrupted this trajectory. Additionally, the ongoing crisis in the airline industry following the COVID-19 pandemic has forced several Latin American carriers to restructure their debts.
Prioritizing Employee Wages and Operational Stability
As reported by our partner media outlet Aeroin, VOEPASS will prioritize the payment of salaries and employee benefits throughout the restructuring process. "With this measure, we aim to restore financial balance and ensure the continuity of our operations and jobs," Felício concluded.
