Antonov Airlines, a company specialized in the transport of heavy materials, successfully completed three flights of its An-124-100s in cooperation with Chapman Freeborn Germany. The purpose of the operations was to transport a new mobile gas-fired power plant generator and associated equipment between Ljubljana, capital of Slovenia, and Kano, in northern Nigeria.
The transport of a generator, a turbine and additional equipment marked the conclusion of a year-long cooperation project. Each Antonov 124-100 can carry up to 150 tons of paid cargo on each operation. The total cargo carried on the flights to Nigeria was about 200 tons.
«The entire Antonov team, from commercial to operational, route planning, and load planning worked closely with our client and agents to ensure the safe delivery of this important cargo, which will support energy needs in Nigeria», commented Eugene Kiva, Antonov’s Commercial Executive.
Antonov emphasized the continuity of its operations despite the ongoing war in the territory of the Eastern European country. The Ukranian company «continues to fly worldwide, prioritising flights for the Ukrainian government, the Strategic Airlift International Solution (SALIS), and humanitarian missions».
«We continue to operate despite the challenges we have faced after russian invasion and the damage they caused to our Gostomel home base and some of our aircraft», said Ievgen Gavrylov, Antonov’s Acting Director Genera. He also remarked that the planning and maintenance areas were temporarily relocated to Leipzig, Germany, to ensure the continuation of safe operations.
