With a contract signed with JetSMART, Aerolíneas Argentinas began providing ramp services to third parties
Aerolíneas Argentinas has started providing ramp and handling services for another airline, made possible by recent regulatory changes implemented by the national government.
The first contract of this kind was signed with JetSMART and began operations in January. The agreement includes tasks such as signaling, placement of stairs, generator rental, baggage and passenger movements, and aircraft towing, among other essential ground operation services.
Until recently, airlines with technical capacity were only allowed to provide ramp services for themselves. However, the deregulation of the sector, accompanied by regulatory changes promoted by ANAC (National Civil Aviation Administration) to allow the provision of services to third parties, has opened up opportunities for Aerolíneas Argentinas and other companies in the local market.
A few weeks ago, the establishment of a corporation that—according to various sources—will provide the legal framework for Menzies' entry is another example of the opening of ramp and handling operations to new service providers.
The advantage of presence and experience
With experience and specialized equipment deployed in Argentina's main airports, Aerolíneas Argentinas positions itself as a qualified provider to handle a wide variety of passenger and aircraft operations.
In addition to its incursion into ramp services, the airline already offers:
• Aircraft maintenance for other companies.
• Pilot and crew training through the Aircraft Pilot and Crew Training Center (CeFEPRA).
This new contract not only diversifies Aerolíneas Argentinas' revenue but also strengthens the operational infrastructure of local and international airlines operating in the country. The measure is part of a broader framework of modernization and opening up of the Argentine aviation market.
