With More Air Europa and JetBlue Flights, Honduras Expands International Connectivity
San Pedro Sula will enhance its international network in 2025 with additional flights to Madrid and New York, along with new international routes.
The Honduran airport operator Empresas Hondureñas de Infraestructura y Servicios Aeroportuarios (EHISA), which manages Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport (SAP) in San Pedro Sula, has confirmed an increase in international flights for 2025.
One of the key developments is the arrival of JetBlue in Honduras, with flights between SAP and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), announced two weeks ago.
Another major change is the expansion of flights to Madrid (MAD), Spain, the only direct connection between San Pedro Sula and Europe. Currently, Air Europa operates this route twice a week, but starting in December 2025, a third weekly flight will be added.
- Flight UX 15: MAD 01:35 – 06:15 SAP (Monday, Thursday, Saturday)
- Flight UX 16: SAP 11:45 – 04:40 (+1) MAD (Monday, Thursday, Saturday)
The flights will be operated with a Boeing 787-8, configured for 291 passengers, increasing the total seat availability to 1,726 per week.
According to AENA Estadísticas, this route transported 59,746 passengers in 2024, with a 95% load factor.
Competition and Domestic Connectivity
Air Europa faces indirect competition from Iberojet, which operates flights from Tegucigalpa/Comayagua (XPL) to Madrid (MAD) and Barcelona (BCN), offering three and one weekly flights, respectively, using Airbus A350-900 aircraft.
A key advantage of San Pedro Sula is its domestic connectivity, with CM Airlines and Aerolíneas Sosa offering flights to Roatán, La Ceiba, and Tegucigalpa, providing greater accessibility for travelers.
