This measure established an interline agreement between the German leisure airline and Lufthansa, allowing passengers from North America to fly with Condor and connect to a Lufthansa service on a single ticket with checked luggage to their final destination.
Following this ruling, Condor has adjusted its schedule for the summer 2025 season by reducing the number of transatlantic destinations, discontinuing services from Frankfurt to Edmonton and Calgary in Canada and Baltimore, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Phoenix-Sky Harbor, and San Antonio in the United States.
“Condor has cultivated strong professional and personal ties with San Antonio and the other affected communities over the years, and we deeply regret the loss of connectivity and service this will cause. With this measure, San Antonio loses its only transatlantic connection; Baltimore, Phoenix-Sky Harbor, and Edmonton will no longer have nonstop flights to Germany; Minneapolis-St. Paul and Halifax will only be operated by Discover Airlines.
Condor has also made adjustments to its long-haul schedule, operating year-round to Bangkok and Johannesburg. Additionally, it is increasing flights in several West Coast cities in the United States, which are hubs for its codeshare partner, Alaska Airlines.
The German leisure airline has also added short- and medium-haul services from Frankfurt to Berlin, Milan-Malpensa, Prague, Rome-Fiumicino, and Zurich to feed its transatlantic flights.

The leisure airline offers travelers codeshare flights with its partner Porter Airlines to other Canadian destinations, including Montreal, Calgary, and Vancouver, through Toronto-Pearson. The flights are already available for purchase.
Air Transat is the fourth airline to offer transatlantic flights from Berlin-Brandenburg Airport, complementing services by Delta Air Lines from New York-JFK, United Airlines from Newark, and Norse Atlantic from New York-JFK and Miami.

The Canadian airline aims to strengthen its operations through its three main hubs: Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver, with the goal of reaching 30 billion Canadian dollars in annual revenue and improving profitability by 2030. According to the company, the strategy includes revenue growth of 7-8% annually, supported by an increase in capacity (ASMs) of 5-6% annually.
Air Canada has diversified its market across the three hubs, with Toronto established as its global hub, Montreal leading in transatlantic routes, and Vancouver specializing in transpacific connections. The airline&#8217;s capacity is distributed as follows: 21% for domestic routes, 34% for the Atlantic, 16% for the Pacific, and 10% for Latin America and Caribbean markets.

<h3>New destinations in Latin America</h3>
As part of its growth plan, Latin America is a key focus within the expansion strategy, with eight new destinations.
Among its priorities is Lima (LIM, Peru; a destination it previously operated before the pandemic and is currently served by Air Transat from Toronto and Montreal. The company plans to relaunch the route using the <a href="https://aviacionline.com/2024/12/air-canada-bets-on-airbus-a321xlr-for-new-routes-to-south-america-and-beyond/">Airbus A321neo XLR</a>.
Another new country is Guyana, with non-stop flights between Toronto and Georgetown/Cheddi Jagan (GEO), aiming to capitalize on the region&#8217;s economic boom. The company plans to launch this route using Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, operated by its subsidiary Air Canada Rouge. Finally, it also plans to enter El Salvador (SAL), currently connected to Canada through its commercial partners Air Transat and Avianca.
After entering Monterrey (MTY) as a seasonal route, the airline has set its sights on Guadalajara (GDL), Mexico&#8217;s second-largest city, with the A220-300. Through its Rouge subsidiary, it plans to add Acapulco (ACA) to its network, joining its other seven vacation destinations in Mexico: Cancun, Cozumel, Huatulco, Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo, Puerto Vallarta, San José del Cabo, and Tulum.
A new vacation destination on its network will be Cartagena (CTG, Colombia, which in recent weeks has progressed on the project for a new airport that will increase the number of arrivals to the city on the Caribbean coast.
Finally, Air Canada plans to launch two new destinations in Brazil, including resuming flights to Rio de Janeiro/Galeao (GIG), which it operated until 2016, and entering Fortaleza (FOR) in northeastern Brazil. Both routes will focus on meeting the demand of Canadian tourists in the South American country.

Air Canada presented its growth strategy during Investor Day 2024, highlighting the central role of the Airbus A321XLR in connecting Canada with South America more efficiently and strengthening its global network. The airline aims to establish itself as a leader in international connectivity, with plans to reach CAD 30 billion in annual revenue and improve profitability by 2030.
The Airbus A321XLR, one of the cornerstones of Air Canada’s fleet modernization, will enable connections between Toronto and Montreal and destinations in South America that currently lack direct flights or are served by larger-capacity aircraft. This ultra-long-range aircraft, which consumes 30% less fuel than the A321ceo, will open new routes to lower-demand markets with higher frequencies and reduced seasonality.
Among the planned routes, <a href="https://aviacionline.com/2021/06/air-canada-cargo-begins-routes-to-miami-lima-ecuador-and-mexico-with-converted-boeing-767-300ers/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Lima, in Peru, stands out as a destination currently served only by Air Canada Cargo</a> with its Boeing 767-300F aircraft. With the A321XLR, Lima could gain regular passenger flights, enhancing connectivity between Canada and South America with lower operational costs.
Additionally, the flexibility of the A321XLR will allow for strengthened offerings to other South American cities and complement existing flights operated by A330-300 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft to destinations such as Bogotá, Buenos Aires, São Paulo, and Santiago de Chile.
During the presentation, Air Canada emphasized that the A321XLR is a strategic tool to optimize its network, increasing frequency on moderately demanded routes and entering new markets, such as Dakar, Senegal.
The airline projects 7-8% annual revenue growth, driven by a 5-6% annual capacity increase (ASMs). This growth will be supported by leveraging sixth freedom connections, using Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver hubs to capture a greater share of traffic between the United States and international markets.
<h3>Fleet modernization</h3>
The introduction of the A321XLR, alongside the Boeing 787-10, Airbus A220, and 737 MAX, is part of an integral fleet modernization plan. The fleet will grow from 347 current aircraft to over 400 by 2028, with more fuel-efficient planes and lower maintenance costs.
The Boeing 787-10 will bring 30% more premium seat capacity and 25% more cargo capacity, while the A321XLR will optimize transatlantic and medium-haul routes in niche markets, such as connections between Canada and South America.
Air Canada plans to enhance the passenger experience by introducing fast and free Wi-Fi across its fleet by 2026, upgrading cabins, expanding premium lounges, and providing digital solutions to simplify travel.
The airline will also increase its premium cabin capacity by 24% in business class and 20% in premium economy, positioning itself as a leader in the premium travel segment in Canada.
The Aeroplan loyalty program, relaunched in 2020, plays a key role in Air Canada’s strategy. Membership has grown significantly, driving spending on flights and additional services. Aeroplan not only enhances travel recurrence but also generates additional revenue through redemptions and partnerships with international partners.
<h3>Financial management and projections through 2030</h3>
Air Canada plans to achieve an adjusted EBITDA margin of 18-20% and free cash flow close to 5%. Additionally, it will maintain controlled capital investments below 12% of revenue and reduce leverage to less than 2x. The company also commits to returning value to shareholders with a share buyback program that will reduce the total number of shares to less than 300 million by 2028.

Air Canada es la única compañía aérea canadiense que tiene programado volar a Filipinas y la segunda norteamericana. En la actualidad Manila es el mayor mercado de Asia sin servicio directo de Air Canada. El nuevo servicio comenzará inicialmente con tres vuelos semanales el 2 de abril de 2025 y aumentará a cuatro veces por semana el 1 de mayo de 2025, empleando aeronaves Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

Air Canada lanza vuelos a Filipinas

<a href="https://www.aircanada.com">Air Canada</a>, the airline with the largest offering of flights between Canada and South America, is planning its future in the region with a modernized and more efficient fleet, including the addition of the Boeing 787-10 and the Airbus A321XLR within the next five years. These aircraft will enable the optimization of its route network and the exploration of potential new connections.
The airline confirmed to our associated media outlet in Brazil, <a href="https://aeroin.net/air-canada-pretende-implementar-o-boeing-787-10-em-voos-para-o-brasil/">Aeroin,</a> that it plans to deploy the Boeing 787-10 on its routes to São Paulo/Guarulhos (GRU) and Buenos Aires/Ezeiza (EZE), which are currently operated by smaller versions of the Dreamliner: the 787-9 and, occasionally, the 787-8.
From São Paulo, Air Canada offers daily flights to Toronto/Pearson (YYZ) and a connection to Montreal/Trudeau (YUL) every day during the southern summer season, reducing frequency to four flights per week for the rest of the year. Meanwhile, the route to Buenos Aires is an extension of flights from Guarulhos, operating four weekly flights year-round and daily flights during summer.
Before the health crisis, Air Canada utilized Boeing 777-300ER and 777-200LR aircraft with capacities of up to 450 passengers on its South American routes during peak season. However, delays in the delivery of new wide-body aircraft and supply chain issues have led the airline to streamline its operations, maintaining the current models until the new fleet arrives.

The shift to the Boeing 787-10 will represent an increase of 30 to 40 additional seats compared to the 787-9, as this version can accommodate between 318 and 357 passengers in a two-class configuration, compared to the 255-294 of the smaller models. Air Canada has ordered 18 Boeing 787-10 aircraft, scheduled for delivery in 2026.
The Airbus A321XLR, known for its extended range among narrow-body aircraft, will also play a key role in the airline’s expansion, although specific routes for this model have not yet been disclosed. The company has orders for up to 36 aircraft, with deliveries starting in 2025.

In collaboration with its partner United Airlines, Air Canada will offer up to 7,700 seats on 58 daily nonstop flights to 21 U.S. destinations next summer, representing an 11% increase in capacity compared to the previous summer.

Air Canada Introduces Three New U.S. Routes from Vancouver for Summer 2025

Air Canada Cargo operates these services with a specialized fleet, including Boeing 767F aircraft, which offer a capacity of 57 tons and 483 m³, along with compartments designed to maintain precise temperature control. Air Canada Cargo Expands Global Reach with Massive Flower Shipments to Europe

During the presentation of its summer 2025 schedule, <a href="https://aviacionline.com/tag/westjet/">WestJet</a> announced the expansion of its operations to Europe with its Boeing 737 MAX 8, introducing new routes from Halifax (YHZ) and St. John&#8217;s (YYT), as well as increasing frequencies to existing destinations.
WestJet&#8217;s <a href="https://www.westjet.com/en-ca/aircraft/boeing-737-8-max">Boeing 737 MAX</a> aircraft are used on transatlantic routes exclusively during the northern summer season, though these are far from being the longest routes of the model worldwide. For the rest of the year, the airline operates its Boeing 787-9 fleet. The advantage of using the MAX lies in the ability to launch low-demand routes that typically face little to no competition.
This season, WestJet will operate flights between Halifax and Paris/Charles de Gaulle (CDG), as well as from St. John&#8217;s to Dublin (DUB) and Paris/Charles de Gaulle. Additionally, it will increase flights from both Canadian cities to London/Gatwick (LGW). Other routes to Europe with the 737 MAX remain unchanged.

<h4>WestJet continues to grow in Delta hubs</h4>
WestJet is expanding in the transborder market by 11%, operating in 29 airports with more than 900 weekly flights and continuing to optimize its connectivity across the United States to Delta Air Lines’ main hubs.
Through the partnership between both airlines, customers connecting in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, New York, Salt Lake City, and Seattle will gain access to an extensive network of U.S. destinations with a single ticket.

WestJet Expands U.S. Routes for Summer 2025: New Destinations and Year-Round Services

In a new update to its reservation system, <a href="https://aviacionline.com/tag/westjet/">WestJet</a> has announced the suspension of its flights to Barbados (BGI) and Puerto Plata (POP), Dominican Republic, starting in April 2025. These destinations had been served for over a decade, operated from Toronto (YYZ) using Boeing 737 MAX 8 and 737-800 aircraft.
Flights to Puerto Plata, launched in December 2007, began as seasonal winter operations and later expanded into year-round service. Following the COVID-19 crisis, WestJet restricted these flights to specific seasons until resuming year-round service in 2024.
According to the latest update, the last flight to Puerto Plata will take place on April 25, 2025. Following this suspension, Air Transat will remain the only airline connecting Puerto Plata with Canada, offering regular flights to Toronto and Montreal, while Sunwing will continue to operate charter services.
Barbados, on the other hand, has been part of WestJet’s network since late 2008. The service began as seasonal and became year-round in 2010. However, following the pandemic, flights returned to seasonal operations until resuming year-round service in 2024. WestJet plans to suspend its flights to the island on April 26, 2025. Going forward, Air Canada will be the sole operator offering direct flights between Canada and the Caribbean island.
<h4>WestJet’s impact on both destinations</h4>
With this decision, the airline leaves a gap, as it had been transporting around 60,000 passengers annually between Canada and Barbados. Canada is the third most important market for tourism in Barbados, especially during the peak cruise season.
As for Puerto Plata, which has relied on connections with Canada to attract visitors, being the second most important market, it will also see a reduction in air service. WestJet was moving approximately 19,000 passengers annually.
