The performance of pilots and crew members in non-scheduled air transport companies is a critical component for ensuring the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of operations, both in executive and medical flights, where the latter presents higher risks and operational demands.
The regulation of the Safety Management System (SMS) in RAAC 135 follows international standards established by ICAO in Annex 19, which details the requirements for implementing and monitoring an SMS in aviation. At the national level, ANAC (National Civil Aviation Administration) oversees its compliance, supported by the DNSO (National Department of Operational Safety) and POI (Principal Operations Inspectors), who audit the operations of non-scheduled airlines.
Internally, each company&#8217;s operational safety manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the SMS, ensuring the identification and management of operational risks, promoting a safety culture, and guaranteeing compliance with local and international regulations.
The implementation of CRM within this complex socio-technical system is essential to minimize risks and ensure mission success. A key question arises: why do we talk about minimizing and not eliminating risks? The answer lies in the nature of the system: the human component is vital and, as such, introduces an inevitable margin of uncertainty. Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club (ADAC) has ordered a Bombardier Challenger 650 for <a href="https://www.aero-dienst.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Aero-Dienst</a>. The aircraft will be configured as a dedicated air ambulance and is scheduled for delivery in 2026.
The new Challenger 650 will join Aero-Dienst&#8216;s fleet, which currently includes two Dornier Do-328s and two Learjet 60XRs. General Electric CF34-3B engines will power the aircraft.
Steve Patrick, Vice President of Bombardier Defense, stated: «Our Challenger aircraft are distinguished by their class-leading reliability, flexibility, and versatility—essential features for rapidly responding to emergencies and providing life-saving medical assistance.»
«Bombardier has a long history of supplying medical evacuation aircraft, and we are honored that our Challenger 650 can contribute to the important work ADAC is doing to provide aid to their customers,» Patrick added.
The Challenger 650 has a range of 7,408 kilometers and features a wider passenger door compared to other aircraft in its segment. Additionally, it will have space to accommodate up to four stretchers.
This order highlights the attributes of the Challenger 650, such as its short runway capabilities and reliability, making it an excellent choice for air ambulance configuration.

Dr. Oliver Kosing, one of the Managing Directors of Aero-Dienst, noted: «Aero-Dienst, with its extensive experience in ambulance services for our parent company ADAC SE, is looking forward to putting the Bombardier Challenger 650 into service under our AOC.»
«The Challenger 650 is the best aircraft available for our type of ambulance operation, as its performance perfectly matches our flight profiles,» Kosing added.

ADAC to incorporate a new Bombardier Challenger 650

On June 3,  the 59th anniversary of the entry into service of Dassault Aviation&#8217;s first executive jet, the Falcon 20 was celebrated. The development of this aircraft, initially known as the Dassault-Breguet Mystère 20, began in December 1961.
The Falcon 20 was created in response to the French government&#8217;s request to manufacture a twin-engine jet capable of liaison and training missions. One of the companies that took an interest in the project and began working on it was Dassault Aviation, led by Marcel Dassault.
Thus, in December 1961, Marcel approved the start of the project to produce an aircraft with a capacity of 8 to 10 passengers, initially called the Dassault-Breguet Mystère 20.
<h2>Design and Development</h2>
The design consisted of a low-wing monoplane based on the aerodynamics of the Dassault Mystère IV fighter-bomber. The aircraft would be powered by two Pratt &amp; Whitney JT12A-8 jet engines, mounted at the rear of the fuselage and providing 3,300 pounds of thrust.
The aircraft prototype, with French registration F-WLKB, first flew on May 4, 1963, from Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport. The program aimed to capture the aircraft&#8217;s commercial opportunities, strongly emphasizing the U.S. market.
<h2>Agreement with Pan Am and Introduction to the U.S.</h2>
The company had no experience in marketing civil aircraft, so the plane received virtually no orders. Dassault Aviation then sought a distributor to offer its model in the United States.
At that time, Pan Am was looking for an aircraft to launch its executive jet sales division. After evaluating various planes from different manufacturers, Pan Am became interested in the Mystère 20.
Pan Am suggested that Dassault Aviation replace the Mystère 20s engines with General Electric CF700 engines and increase some of the aircraft&#8217;s dimensions. Dassault agreed to make these changes, and Pan Am placed the first firm order for 40 units, with options for an additional 120.
The Dassault Mystère 20, equipped with the new engines, had its first flight on July 10, 1964. The first production aircraft flew on January 1, 1965, and in June of that year, it received type certifications from the governments of the United States and France.
Upon starting deliveries, planes registered in the United States were dispatched to customers at Hollywood Burbank Airport, California. The remaining aircraft were delivered at Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport.
In 1966, Dassault Aviation decided to rename the aircraft delivered in the U.S. as Fan Jet Falcon, a name later shortened to Falcon 20.
The aircraft quickly became a success, and Pan Am converted the 120 options from the initial order into firm orders and added 40 more aircraft, reaching a total order of 160 Falcon 20 units. The first military orders were also received from Australia, the United States, Canada, and France.
Later, Falcon 20s equipped with CF700 engines were re-engined with Garrett TFE731 turbofans.
<h2>Variants</h2>
In the 1980s, an improved model of the Falcon 20, named the Falcon 200, was launched. This aircraft featured more advanced and efficient Garret ATF3 engines and increased range and capacity.
The Falcon 20 family also included a smaller variant, the Falcon 10. There was also a larger version with a capacity for 30 passengers, called the Falcon 30, which was built and flight-tested but never entered production.
Another variant is the Falcon 50, which had the same fuselage and capacity as the Falcon 20 but was powered by three jet engines located at the rear of the fuselage. The trijet variant had greater autonomy and was of French production.
The aircraft was so successful that production only ceased in 1991. The main operators of the Falcon 20 or HU-25 Guardian, the designation for military use, included Federal Express (through its feeder companies), the United States Coast Guard, and the French Navy.

Falcon 20: 59 years since Dassault Aviation’s first business jet entered into service

<a href="http://aviacionline.com/2024/04/rolls-royce-inicia-las-pruebas-en-un-boeing-747-del-nuevo-motor-del-dassault-falcon-10x/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dassault Falcon Jet</a> abrió un nuevo centro de mantenimiento, reparación y revisión en Brasil. Las nuevas instalaciones del fabricante francés se encuentran emplazadas en el Aeropuerto Internacional Ejecutivo de Catarina (JHF), situado a poco más de 70 kilómetros de la ciudad de San Pablo.
El nuevo centro de servicios al cliente, Dassault Falcon Jet Sao Paulo-Catarina,  reemplazará al existente en Sorocaba, inaugurado en 2009. Las nuevas instalaciones cuentan con un total de 3.600 m² de espacio en el cual puede albergar hasta cinco aeronaves.
Jean Kayanakis, vicepresidente senior de servicio al cliente mundial, dijo: «Para nuestra compañía, la asistencia posventa es una parte vital de la experiencia de propiedad. Esto significa mantener a Dassault lo más cerca posible de sus clientes y ofrecerles todos los servicios necesarios para maximizar el tiempo de actividad y el valor de su flota Falcon».
<h2>MRO a aeronaves</h2>
El centro de Caterina tiene capacidad para atender al avión más grande del fabricante francés, el Falcon 10X. Este es el último integrante de la familia de reactores ejecutivos de Dassault, que actualmente se encuentra en desarrollo, cuyo fuselaje es de los más anchos del mercado.
Las instalaciones cuentan con capacidad para realizar operaciones de mantenimiento y revisión hasta el nivel «B» para los Falcon registrados en Brasil de las familias Falcon 7X/8X y Falcon 2000. También está equipada para realizar evaluaciones previas a la compra (PPE) para clientes que estén considerando adquirir un Falcon de segunda mano.
El centro de mantenimiento Caterina cuenta con la certificación de Estación de Reparación otorgada por la Agencia Nacional de Aviación Civil (ANAC) de Brasil, la Administración Federal de Aviación (FAA) y la Agencia Europea de Seguridad Aérea (EASA).
Además, cuenta con la autorización de reguladores como Argentina, Bermudas y Uruguay. Está autorizada a realizar el mantenimiento de línea y las inspecciones principales de los modelos Falcon de las series 50, 900 y 2000, el Falcon 7X y el Falcon 8X.
<h2>Servicios adicionales del nuevo centro</h2>
El nuevo centro de Dassault en San Pablo puede llevar a cabo el mantenimiento de línea de motores CFE-738, Honeywell TFE731 y Pratt &amp; Whitney Canada PW307A, PW307D y PW308C.
También cuenta con la capacidad para realizar procedimientos especializados de ensayos no destructivos (END), como pruebas con líquidos penetrantes y corrientes parásitas. Un taller de baterías de servicio completo que puede reparar, sustituir o recargar baterías principales y de emergencia de Falcon y otros modelos de avión.
Al igual que en Sorocaba, Catalina contará con un «equipo de asistencia» formado para proporcionar una respuesta móvil rápida en cualquier lugar de Sudamérica, junto con las piezas y herramientas necesarias para que un Falcon pueda volar con un retraso mínimo.
<h2>Mayor asistencia a nivel global</h2>
En los últimos cinco años, Dassault ha duplicado su capacidad de asistencia global y ha modernizado considerablemente sus servicios de MRO.
El fabricante francés cuenta con más de 60 puntos de servicio y 15 centros de distribución de piezas en todo el mundo, así como los GoTeams necesarios para prestar asistencia a las aeronaves de los clientes 24 horas los 365 días del año.
Recientemente, la compañía inauguró nuevos centros de MRO en el Aeropuerto World Central de Dubai, en Oriente Medio, y en Kuala Lumpur, Malasia. Ambos operan bajo la marca ExecuJet MRO, otra filial propiedad al 100% de Dassault Aviation.
