American Airlines has confirmed the purchase of four new Embraer E175s, with the aircraft set to be operated by its subsidiary Envoy Air. This deal is set to increase Envoy’s all E-Jet fleet to more than 150 aircraft by the close of 2024.
The deal, valued at a list price of US$230.6 million, will be reflected in Embraer’s Q4 2023 backlog.
Envoy’s President & CEO, Pedro Fábregas, commented on the expansion: “These new jets signify our commitment to continued growth alongside American Airlines. The announcement of these four additional aircraft follows our order in June. This step is taken as the US domestic and regional aviation markets rebound from some challenging years. The E175 is our vehicle to provide top-notch and dependable service to American Airlines and the numerous passengers we cater to daily.”
Envoy Air was originally founded in 1998 as American Eagle Airlines, born from the merger of several minor regional carriers. A wholly owned subsidiary of American Airlines Group, Envoy has its headquarters in Irving, Texas, and hubs in Dallas/Fort Worth, Chicago, and Miami. Additionally, it maintains a significant ground handling operation in Los Angeles.
The carrier operates over 130 Embraer aircraft, offering 700 daily flights to more than 160 destinations across the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Bahamas, and the Caribbean. Its workforce of 19,000 employees ensures seamless regional flight service for American Airlines under the American Eagle brand and provides ground handling services for numerous American Airlines Group flights.
Emphasizing the significance of the E175 in the US market, Martyn Holmes, CCO of Embraer Commercial Aviation, said “This fresh order underscores the E175’s vital role in connecting various parts of the United States. It’s heartening to see markers of recovery in the market after the challenges it has faced.”
“With over 620 units sold and a commanding 86% market share since 2013, the E175 has proven to be the cornerstone of the US regional network. We are deeply grateful for the enduring partnership with American Airlines and Envoy”, he added.
Globally, the E170/E175 fleet has logged more than 19.5 million flight hours, with Envoy contributing 1.3 million of those hours.
