On September 17, Phase II of the Charlotte-Douglas Airport Terminal A Expansion opened. This 18,000-square-foot expansion north of Terminal A adds 10 new gates, seven for Delta Air Lines, two for Frontier Airlines, and one for shared use, bringing the total number of gates available at the airport to 124.
“The opening of the Concourse A Expansion, Phase II, marks an important milestone for CLT and the Destination CLT program. This addition not only represents growth, but also a commitment to improving the overall travel experience. “The 10 new gates, unique dining options, artistic touches and cutting-edge innovation reflect a significant investment in our infrastructure and serve as a testament to our vision of building an airport for the future,” said Haley Gentry, CEO of Charlotte-Douglas Airport.
Like Phase I, which opened on July 18, 2018, Phase II features auto-tinted windows to regulate temperature and sunlight, and gate seating and tables that offer integrated, wireless charging capabilities. Another facet of Phase II is the focus on optimizing the passenger experience. The space features an environment inspired by North Carolina’s aviation history.
Phase II of Terminal A cost approximately $241 million, thanks to a North Carolina Airport Improvement Program grant, passenger and non-passenger facility card bonds.
